Columbia Seas!!!

So, I got into Columbia's SEAS and am planning to study OR/IE to eventually concentrate in financial engineering.
I heard that ppl majoring engineering have lower GPA's than people doing other majors because of "grade deflation". Does this mean that engineering majors will be at a disadvantage when applying to grad school? Personally, I want to go to Law school or obtain an MBA.

P.S: How is Columbia's SEAS regarded in general by employers and grad schools? I am an international student so I really dunno...

SEAS doesn't really have "grade deflation." It's less inflated than CC or liberal arts majors at other top schools. However, it's not going to be any worse than other engineering programs. And probably better than many of them. If you're comparing SEAS to other engineering programs, I wouldn't worry about grade deflation.

To the extent that whatever grad program you're interested in cares about your absolute GPA number and doesn't care about major/school, you're going to be at a disadvantage if it's harder for you to get A's in SEAS versus some other program.

also OR department's inflated

What's OR?

operations research.

oh, thanks!
