Columbia Supplement Short Answer - 1500 characters?

I've never posted on CC, but I have something I just really need to ask.

I've looked around and no one seems to have inquired about this, but the Common App website allows up to 1500 characters for each of the short answer questions in the Columbia supplement (what you found meaningful in a book or event, favorite class, why Columbia, what attracts you to your field).

In past years, according to old CC threads at least, the Why Columbia essay was 600 characters and the others were 300 characters. Or something like that.

I generally take it that you should write somewhere close to the max length. 1500 characters seems to fit, but I want to make sure it's supposed to be like this and not some glitch? Are they actually giving us more space this year?

Thanks! If I'm going to write 1500 characters I don't want to have to cut it in half later haha.

When Columbia switched to the common app last year, the lengths of the supplement questions were (more or less) doubled. Now “Why Columbia?” are limited to 1500 characters, and the other questions are limited to 600 characters.

It’s just that ALL the questions are 1500 characters this year… and I find that strange.

Oh well, I guess they just want a longer answer about my favorite class lol

It is not a glitch. 1500 characters fits. It will not accept anymore.
