Columbia Transfer Fall 2010

4 days 1 hour 1 minutes counting down

ahh, can’t believe i’m saying this but I actually wouldn’t have minded waiting some more. SO nervous!

How many did they admit last year?

@cynthia: don’t quote me, but i believe the number was something in the ballpark range of 140ish. ahhh so nervous!

Just checked - it was something like 100/2300. F***.

^ggnore. -_-

So I’m not coming from a community college in New York, or a second tier college where I preformed phenomenally, but I genuinely would value knowing how y’all would perceive the competitiveness of this situation:

I am trying to transfer from Dartmouth, where I earned a 3.54 taking two 300 level classes, a giant 200 level biology class, and one intro. My ECs were diverse, and I participated very heavily in all, even as a freshman. My recommendation comes from the professor of my 300 level class, which was in Arabic, and I got an A in that class despite all junior classmates. I have a modest high school and standardized testing record, all falling within the common top 10% of the class, and middle 50% ranges mentioned in the admission statistics.

Am I… say, ****ed?

@ thisformisdumb

I hope you are not. Although its not quite comparable, I go to UCLA where there is no grade inflation. I have competitive high school GPA and SAT scores as well, was admitted to a way better school, but got tricked into attending a public school as I got a scholarship here. Like you, I dont have a 3.9 or 4.0.

But I suppose you have a very decent shot. its more like a pier institution transfer to them. Good luck

I appreciate that, but have become steadfast in my opinion that where you’re transferring from, and the rigor of your courses really don’t mean anything. They just want to see that you excelled at what you did. Should have take all intros and had a 4.0…

Oh well…we will find out in a few days…so sit back and enjoy the perhaps last few days of your current school. If it makes you feel better, although you might hate Dartmouth, there are thousands of students who would like to attend there.

Peer Institution* in the earlier post btw…

the guy from dartmouth is so getting accepted. haha

Yo, respect, but honestly, I think its a disadvantage coming from another Ivy.

wait just kidding that post is FROM the ivy guy…why do you think it is a disadvantage? It will probably only help you.

Nah it looks like I just went to a comparable school, earned an okay GPA, and now want to leave just because it’s not really suiting my needs. It’d probably have been much better if I’d gone to a second tier college, earned a stellar GPA, and decided it was time to upgrade to challenge myself more or something.

but at least he has the advantage of coming from an institution that is on level with Columbia, so they know that he has the ability to be successful. but alas, none of us are on the admissions staff so we don’t know what the hell runs through their minds, but we all hope we all get accepted.

Less than 24 hours…

I was on the CU campus today…so beautiful!! Pretty much counting down the seconds now haha

I have a final tomorrow and a paper due tomorrow, but how am I supposed to concentrate with less than 24 hours!

hey guys, I was wondering, if a student finishes high school with a 3.0-3.5 GPA and ends up at a tier 4 where he has a 4.0 GPA, is it possible for him to get into Columbia as a transfer student even if he applies as a junior transfer?

Yes dude, that’s exactly what I’m trying to say. You’re better off than me.
