So I had a question, so my SAT with essay is kind low (for the Ivies), but I took 5 SAT subject tests and did pretty well, do you think that they would be incorporated in my application and overall evaluation for Columbia?
@TomTanJoseR2022 well, did you send them? Good SAT IIs can be helpful, but they will almost never override low SAT I scores (especially for a school like Columbia)
Yeah, I sent them to all my schools, but Columbia does not have a section for the SAT Subject tests, Harvard and Stanford received them and it shows. Thanks for the quick response! @1984ad
Is anybody having trouble with IDOC? I submitted documents to Columbia on the 10th and they still haven’t been processed.
AcademiaSavvy I wouldnt panic over unprocessed/late Financial Aid papers because those can be resolved later (unlike your actual application to get in, lol). But yeah, I’m having the same issue
@AcademiaSavvy idk, mine went through fine
do we have any word yet on how many ED applications have been submitted for this year? also, if anyone knows the specific review process each app goes through at columbia that would just be great to know.
@bagelboy nope, and don’t expect to know for a while at least. columbia is one of the more secretive ivies when it comes to releasing stats like that, and their info tends to be one of the last to arrive on sites that report acceptance rates and ED numbers. if the increasing trend continues, however, you could probably expect around 4100-4400 total ED applications if i had to make a guess.
as for the review process, i believe you’re assessed at first by your regional admissions officer and possibly another set of eyes before being sent into committee. like most people, i have no idea what qualifies someone for committee, how many people get into committee (if not every application), how applications are quantitatively evaluated, etc, etc.
Have any of you sent I your first quarter grades of your senior year? Like is there a deadline for them?
@TomTanJoseR2022 I sent mine yesterday. I don’t even think we technically need to send them right now because we’ll definitely receive an admissions decision regardless of whether they get them or not. There’s no real deadline, but if you get accepted then you should definitely send them
My school’s transcripts run as a semester, but most of our classes run alternating quarters- for example, I have Physics quarters 1+3 but AP Lit quarters 1+2 and another English quarters 3+4. My anatomy class is only one quarter long. Should I send a quarter transcript? It would only have three classes on it, all of which won’t actually have finalized grades until ~April 7th, when our 3rd quarter ends.
@katewithak I think it depends on how you feel about it. I doubt sending a midyear report at this point will even help them make a decision (because I think almost all decisions have been made at this point… yikes!), but if you want to send it just because then go ahead. My school works in normal quarters so I just sent mine because it was relatively easy for me to do
Any updates on the release date?
@notlimah_hsirrap I really hope it’s the 7th the anxiety is killing me!
anyone got any ideas for how we can all pass the time as a group? lol
For me, it’s that gut-wrenching feeling of desperately wanting to know as soon as possible and also the need to cling on to a pipedream for as long as possible.
I am applying ED to Columbia and apparently I have received a letter from them. Any idea what it could be?
@meifangie What do you mean by letter?
@AcademiaSavvy I’m guessing since this person joined just to post this note that they are messing with people because they have nothing better to do at 3 a.m. Otherwise, I would have thought they would have opened the letter and also shared with everyone the contents.
@meifangie why don’t you open it and let us know lol
