@bagelboy also i think its a little weird that you’ve seen lots of people post about human rights/sustainable development. i think both of those majors are on the extreme as being not very common haha. polisci and econ are always the big ones for me whenever i see people posting about columbia, and the link below kinda confirms how big those programs are!
I’m from New Jersey and applied for comp sci (in the college), Japanese, and psychology but I’ve also come to realize I’m very interested in the neuro and behavior major
Anyone looking at middle eastern/asian languages and cultures??? Doesn’t seem like an overly popular major, but then again neither does my second choice (Portuguese) or my third choice (hispanic studies)
@1984ad Woah I didn’t know Columbia posted that! I don’t know if I would be happy or upset about a lot of people majoring in what I am because it increase the competition, but at the same time you can relate with one another.
@katewithak about 14 people at Columbia do ME Studies/EA languages, roughly on par with the amount who do other majors like Anthropology, Human Rights, Art History, and Creative Writing (hopefully that gives you a baseline to the popularity of the major)
@AcademiaSavvy yes most schools post something similar! i’ve also heard that applying to majors with a lot of people increases competition in admissions because colleges get so many applicants for certain majors that they have to choose the best of the best in that field. i think other majors like Dance and German would be more likely to get people accepted because there are less applications and therefore less selectivity when they’re building a class.
@1984ad There were 14 people with my major according to that link so hopefully I appear competitive enough. On my common app essay I tied my passion /major of chem with something really unique that my mom thought was stupid to write about on my essay but my GC and teachers liked it so hopefully it makes me stand out!
anyone heard about when the CU will post the decision letter??? LOL i cannot get off from the portal to see any changes… i have tons of supplements to write+homeworks to do…
@kimchimaster We’ve been speculating either the 7, 11, or 14. The 7 doesnt seem as likely due to time constraints, but it’s still possible. And they used a monday date last year so that’s why the 11 is possible. And the 14th is because it’s also another thursday (and someone else said that their GC got a letter confirming that date but no one else has gotten that letter so we dont know how valid that is at this point)
does anyone else think that it’s kind of crazy that we haven’t hear anything official about a date even though Harvard and Cornell already have their official dates???
@bagelboy yeah its a little disappointing :-< hopefully they send an email or at least some form of contact on monday. it’s crazy that just about every ivy has a date already except us. some people speculated that their extension probably delayed their decisions, but i doubt it because harvard/penn/yale/etc also did extensions and they’re releasing on schedule still.
