I was looking at 2021’s ED thread and not nearly as many ppl posted on there as this year. This thread is poppin’ Also, mostly everyone that got accepted had only like 3 total posts which freaks me out.
@AcademiaSavvy looks like I just need one more post and I’m in then
@AcademiaSavvy i just think we’re all more inclined to have conversations! the other threads look like theyre strictly business haha
also, the fact that a lot of people accepted had like 3 posts is because the majority of applicants aren’t on college confidential. some of the people in this thread will get into columbia and post about it, but as soon as decisions are released you’re gonna see a flood of people making accounts only to say “hi! i got accepted!” and then leave forever lol, hence the 3 posts. plus theres lots of lurkers reading this thread (and maybe even this post!) so i think they’ll come out of the woodwork once it’s time
@1984ad Yeah it’s more fun to stress together.
I need another opinion. A high school that’s within the top 10 ranked in my state is like 25 min away from mine that’s not anywhere near that ranking and they had a boy accepted to more than half of the ivys last yr including CU so do you think that regional officers that look at apps would be more focused on that school? Edit: Also, no one else from my school applied ED to CU and nobody has gotten accepted to an ivy in the past decade if that helps in any way lol
@AcademiaSavvy situations like that can be hard to evaluate, especially when you don’t have the entire pool in front of you. to the best of my knowledge though, i think having no one else in your school applying is already a positive because you’ve already “beaten out the competition” in that aspect lol. the more competitive school might have more applicants who have to compete to get recognition by AOs. i’ve read that if many people are applying from the same school that ivies will just reject the bottom 50% of scores/GPAs and make it easier for themselves that way. so congrats for your small victory of beating out your school technically lol.
i don’t think AOs necessarily “focus” on any specific schools. there are positives and negatives to going to any type of school. if you go to a low performing school, AOs will recognize your high achievement, for example. you’re compared in context, meaning that the ECs and grades and similar things of an inner city kid are not compared to the ECs/grades of some rich suburban kid. it’s because the two schools and atmospheres and environments are totally different, which would make it wrong to penalize the lower performing student for opportunities that were never even available.
however, because you’re your schools only applicant, you still have to prove yourself among the general pool in some way. that means both grades/scores and also a defining characteristic. how are your SATs and your GPA, and what is your defining “thing”? and by “thing” i mean something specific. it’s not good enough to be a “science kid” because no one remembers that. being a “science kid who was the only one to win X award” is more closer to what i mean. so, having that “thing” coupled with (hopefully) columbia-level academics will help you stick out from the kids from the other school(s)
my CSS profile was finally received after I messaged the financial aid office.
I am getting so nervous now that we know the decision date. I already know that my test scores are not good enough, so I am hoping that I will be at least deferred instead of being rejected right away
@meifangie same here :(((
So IvyWise is saying the decisions come out the evening of December 15th (as per info from the admissions office). The same for Yale. What does anyone make of that?
my CSS profile status is "Not Received 11/2/2017 ", Tax Return status is "Received 11/15/2017 " and Noncustodial Parent Waiver Request status is "Not Reviewed 11/15/2017 ". There’s been no change in status since November 15th. I don’t know if this is a sign that i’ve been rejected or what. I’m not going to be the guy that calls the financial aid office to see whats up cause that must be annoying for them. but it’s just weird because I am an international and they are meant to review your financial aid need when making a decision. oh well… i’ll see next week.
@Nicholas Massenburg I think it will be 12/14 since 3+ GC’s (per other posts) have received letters directly from Columbia indicating decisions will be available online on Thursday, December 14.
@mitsubishisony I would call. Better to be annoying than to have missing documents that cause problems moving forward. I’m sure they understand the anxiety and besides you are one of hundreds that call so it’s not likely they are going to remember your name specifically. Good luck.
@mitsubishisony you should definitely call! I am also an international applicant and I submitted my CSS profile on 11/13, there were no changes/updates and it was not received either. I sent a mail yesterday to the office of financial aid and even though they did not reply, the tracking system told me that it was finally received yesterday. So send a mail or call them, that might help!
@meifangie Don’t you think it was received all along, they just hadn’t updated the status on your account?
@mitsubishisony might be, so maybe it could be a similar case with yours as well - that they just did not update your status as well. I would definitely send a mail to them to know what is wrong
I asked my counselor and she said she hasn’t gotten anything, but would email her former colleague who’s now adcom to ask.
Oh god
Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking on this thread for a couple weeks (and I’ve been lurking on CC since middle school lol) but I finally decided to make an account and contribute to the conversation! I’m anxious and afraid beyond belief, but it’s comforting knowing that I’m not alone!
Hello all! I literally just got off the with an admissions officer and I inquired about the decision date. The officer told me that they will send out an email in the next couple of days with the official date, so watch out for an email!
@Morocco965 How wonderful and thank you for the initiative and sharing the information.
Current big mood: withering in a pit of anxiety as I attempt to study for finals and finish applications for other colleges while coming to terms with the fact that there’s like a .7% chance I’ll get accepted to Columbia RIP
