Columbia University ED Class of 2022

@h0kulani I’ve finished mine, just doing some finishing touches now

I think mine’s pretty good- I had a stroke of genius while writing it and I love it. I tried really hard to focus on two specifics aspects of the college instead of going for the whole “Columbia’s core is great” or “I love new york”

@katewithak i did something similar! make sure to have someone proofread it, though

Hello. Does anyone know if the financial aid deadline got moved back since the ED deadline did?

Did the deadline get moved back? My app still says Nov. 1 @AcademiaSavvy

@AcademiaSavvy @katewithak I’m pretty sure the deadline only moved back to November 15 for people in crisis areas like Houston, Las Vegas, etc. If you’re not affected by any type of disaster, I’m pretty sure there’s no reason for them to extend the deadline. Mine also says November 1.

I would assume that FA deadlines were pushed back as well if that’s the case.

when r pple submitting their apps in?? I’m thinking of doing it a few days early??

@icepinky19 My counselor says they need like a 10 day buffer to get everything in by November 1 (or at least my school does), so I plan on clicking submit sometime this weekend along with my EA apps tbh

@icepinky19 just finished my app, so i should be sending it in sometime this weekend after i get my college counselor to proof it one last time!

@katewithak @1984ad

Given the destruction and disruption that communities continue to face in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma and the natural disasters in Mexico and South Asia, we will extend our Early Decision deadline to Wednesday, November 15, 2017, for any applicants from affected areas who could benefit from additional time. We also will extend the deadline to November 15 for students affected by the devastating mass shooting in Las Vegas. We hope this deadline extension helps to relieve some of the stress and anxiety students, families and educators might be feeling. Our thoughts are with the families and communities who are dealing with the anguish and upheaval of these tragedies.
If you are interested in applying Early Decision to Columbia College or Columbia Engineering, please know that you and your school can submit materials to Columbia until 11:59 p.m. (local time) on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. There is no need to request a deadline extension. Additionally, we will approve any fee waiver requests submitted by affected students.

Furthermore, we understand that rescheduled or cancelled SAT and ACT exams this fall may impact the plans of Early Decision applicants. Please be assured that standardized testing completed by the November test date will arrive in time for Early Decision review. November scores should be reported directly to Columbia by the testing agency but do not need to be rushed.
Please do feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns at 212-854-2522 or ugrad-ask@columbia.edu if we can be of further assistance. We want to assure you that we are committed to working with students who wish to apply to Columbia.

Thank you for your interest in Columbia. We hope you and your loved ones are well.

Best,

Jessica Marinaccio
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid

I was affected by one of these events so I’m submitting later, but in a recent email it still said Nov. 1 so I’m going to contact them.

@AcademiaSavvy yup, that’s what i thought

Would anyone on here be willing to take a look at the supplements that I’ve written? I would be willing to do the same for you. I want to get that ED application submitted in the next few days so having another set of eyes on it would be very helpful before I send it off!

@maya2727 I would be willing to take a look. I’m not quite done with my supplements, but I hope to be soon!

@maya2727 I’ve finished my supplements too and i’d be willing to take a look at yours if you want!

i submitted my application today! good luck to everyone!

congrats @1984ad !! I’m visiting campus (again) on Wednesday, so I’ll probably submit after that!

@katewithak thankyou! i wish i could visit the campus all over again, it was amazing :slight_smile:

also, if you need anyone to look over your supplements, i’d be happy to! (unfortunately you can’t return the favor because i’ve already sent mine in haha)

That would be amazing! How should I send them to you?

@maya2727 i’d be okay with reading yours if you messaged me through the collegeconfidential inbox! you could put it in a google doc and turn on commenting so i could leave my thoughts on stuff like grammar/spelling/structure/whatever

i love proofreading essays and i do it for my friends a lot so i wouldn’t mind tbh
