Columbia University High School Program

umm… it doesnt sound like its very selective at all

really hope i get in…

My son just got his admission email yesterday. From what I talked to the Admission office, high-school students going to Freshman/Sophomore are a bit harder to get in since the openings are smaller comparing to the Junior/Senior. Session 1 only.

Hi tennis421, do you get in?

I haven’t gotten my email yet but I’m constantly checking my email. How long after your son sent his application in did he get his decision? I’m doing session 1.
So overall as you spoke to the Admissions Office they said it was not as selective, meaning admission rate wise ?

Yes I got in! I opened my email this morning and saw “Decision on your application”…didn’t have the guts to open it until now.
I wonder how selective the program is though, since my application was kind of rushed…

how long did it take to get your decision?

8 days from when it arrived at the admissions office
which course did you apply to?

I applied to the Explorations in Genetics/ Molecular Biology. Im curious to know what the admission rate is. For me its been maybe 2 weeks since they got my stuff, so Im still waiting.

I don’t think you should worry too much, cuz from most people I’ve heard the admission rate is really high. My marks for first term werent exceptional, and they still accepted me. If you’re status says received, then it should be fine, but if its not, maybe give it a bit more time, then call the office.
Good luck!

thanks !!
yeah my grades first quarter weren’t exceptional…however I don’t think that you have to be top of your class to get accepted. Good Luck to you though!

I am thinking of applying to the second session, which I think the deadline is in May, can anyone confirm? Also I couldn’t find anything about this on the website but is there a registration fee?

Nope, pretty sure application for both sessions is April 2nd…
Just go to their website to find out all the info.

Sorry for posting so much… .but I wonder if theres a facebook group for 2010 students yet. If there is, can someone send me the link? Thanks. I couldnt seem to find it on facebook.

tennis421,
well he sent in his application back in Nov 2009, the only thing missing (according to the Admission Office) is his second quarter grade report which did not come out until end of Feb. The school mailed the official report to Columbia the first week of this month, then it took about 2 weeks for the review/decision. He got all A’s except one B+ in his first quarter, then all A’s in second quarter, so I guess the admission rate is pretty selective.

I emailed them so hopefully they will get back to me. Im hearing a predominant amount of responses saying that it is not as selective. I hope I get in ! It has been about two and a half weeks, since I sent it in. We’ll see!
