I am a senior who will be applying to GW in the upcoming days, and was planning on applying firstly to Columbian as a Human Services major, and secondly to Milken as a Public Health major. Ideally I would double major in the two, or I would be able to determine which I prefer once I enter college.
I have truly tried to find this information online, but somehow I cannot locate it, so here is my list of questions:
Is it possible to double major across schools at GW?
Is it possibile to switch schools once at GW (e.g. Columbian to Milken, or vice versa)?
And my main questions are pertaining to which school I should list as my first choice to be admitted to; which school would be harder to transfer in to, which one is more difficult to be admitted to, and is there a difference in merit scholarship consideration between the two schools?
I’d really appreciate any information you might have!
Yes, it’s possible to double-major across schools. You’ll have to talk to the second school (the one other than where you were admitted) and get the ‘ok.’ This can be problematic, however, because some schools have vastly different requirements to graduate, and you could end-up having to take a lot more classes just to fulfill requirements. This is something that an adviser can help you with after you enroll.
Yes, it’s possible to switch schools at GW. I don’t know how easy this is, however, but I do know that it’s possible.
Your first choice should be the major that you prefer over the other, just in case you aren’t able to double-major. In this specific case, however, you’ll have to enroll in the Columbian College, first, as you apply to the Public Health program your sophomore year at GW.
