^^^ Labor Day, Columbus Day and Veterans' Day are no class days. If I remember correctly your Plebe will have Liberty on that Monday. I don't remember the restrictions (there may be none) and it is dependent upon possible duty assignments.

Just remembered. The Annapolis, in water, Sailboat Show is that weekend. Plan accordingly as prices even now for rooms are probably outrageous anywhere near Annapolis

Typically three day weekends mean Town liberty for Plebes on Saturday and Sunday, with yard liberty (normally what we have on Sunday) on Monday. I would just make sure your Plebe doesn't have duty that weekend and that he/she is going to be Sat. With 6 week grades coming up, certain companies will be stricter on liberty if Midshipmen don't have good grades.

yes, hotel rates have skyrocketed for that weekend. there are reasonable rooms available a little farther out, still within the radius.

Always be aware that liberty may not happen as planned. At least one company lost liberty this weekend for undisclosed reasons. A loss of liberty could lead to additional company training time, or might just result in Yard liberty versus town liberty. Be ready to accept whatever happens.

there's one other factor....every Company has duty hours and frequently they fall on holiday times, including Colombus Day. My then-Plebe had an unusual number of duty times on typical 'leave' times...it was just the way it happened. We learned to roll with the punches and count on nothing until it happened. In our case being across the country, we didn't make a car trip on short leave-possibilities, but if Plebe families think they can expect a liberty in their Plebe's case, it is important to always keep in mind that the needs of the US Navy take precedence over any needs of leave, liberty or family. That's what 'service to our country' means for our 17-19yr. old Plebes and families. I do hope as many of you as wish can get a good hug in, by the way... with our Second class girl...we have far too many cyber hugs to suit my Italian mamma's heart!

just check with your mid. mine knows which weekends he's scheduled for duty. it's possible that this is another thing that varies between companies, but duty should be scheduled through the end of the semester barring any emergency changes.
