Columbus Day Holiday

Any information on Plebes getting liberty for Columbus Day weekend. Our son is planning on a quick trip home.

kpmom2010, my son was wondering if they need the Midshipman Liberty Request (Blue Form) to request a "Long Weekend" for the Columbus Day Weekend. He's not sure about watches and the like.

The Regimental Calendar has some info:

will check with my son about any special forms...he is a plebe and we have already made reservations for a short trip home to Atlanta. Will let you know what I hear

my boyfriend is coming home. im so excited! i

he flys out on Fri and i pick him up Fri night and we are going to the beach for the weekend, then i drop him off at the airport on monday morning and i go back to classes....but im super excited

i hope all the parents and girlfriends!!!! enjoy their time with the midshipmen :)

My daughter says that Liberty for Columbus Day is not a done deal - it's up to the descresion of the "powers that be" to decide if they've earned it. She's not optomistic because of the plebe girls that got drunk last weekend (in Great Neck, no less).

ugh, that would stink, my ds has been looking forward to coming home so badly.

What in the world were those girls thinking?????

when did those girls get to Great Neck to do that?

Well they certainly were not thinking that their actions bring the whole ship down, and unfortunately that is a lesson they all need to learn.

I'd hate to be one of them if they do cause a no leave mandate for the holiday.

It was not this weekend just past, but last Saturday night during Liberty. I hope they've learned their lesson - I heard they have so much restriction and demerits, they won't get liberty til near the end of the year! And any other kind of indiscretion could put them over the max and hold them back.....

Okay, my daughter just IM'ed me and told me I misunderstood her - Columbus Day is a LEAVE, so it is a done deal. It's the other regular Liberties that can be cancelled. Sorry if I upset any of you!

Given I am on the left coast, it didn't upset me. :)

However, the plebes must know, they are all in it together, their actions intricately effect everyone around them. That is a most critical lesson soldiers must understand and the academies will teach it in any way that is possible.

I also understand that the male firsties that they were with are in more of a jam and rightly so..
Maybe they ought to put the Outback Steakhouse in Bayside off limits.

why should the males be in more of a jam then the females?

and why is the Outback selling alcohol to minors? Presuming they are in the 18-19 yo range.

The males would get into more trouble because they are 1/c and therefore "should know better." They will most likely get hit with Fraternization along with other offenses.

Upperclassmen should know better and are not supposed to date plebes so I understand

Oh I see firsties are not plebes.

Yep, they nailed themselves to the wall on that one. Hung themselves with their own rope.

So to speak

I heard about this "incident" from far, far away. What networking those KP kids have! Well meaning citizens will send drinks to the tables of Mids. Happens alot up there. Where's a Mom when ya need one. ;)

Ooopps. Forgot to add a thought to cjp. Have a GREAT time with your Mid! Safe travels to you both & let him sleep a little in between feeding him & catching waves. :)

yeah atleast one of the upper classman that i know of was one of the highest ranking mids here too so that doesn't look good at all. when it comes to alcohol, it's everywhere. a lot of people here do not look their age therefore, combined with wearing the unifrom, no bar or anything like that will turn you away. it is just something you have to deal with and be responisble enough not to do anything stupid.
