Com. App Soft Spot and Letters of Rec

Deferred at NU. Is there a proper way to check if there is a "soft spot" in my app? Is it common/accepted practice for a high school counselor to call the university rep and ask? Since I signed the Common App with regards to agreeing not to see my letters of recommendation, is there a way to make sure they were good. Common App included the maximum 2 letters of recommendation, but this year I am doing better in my weakest subject, I get along well with the teacher and he a NU grad, any thoughts on sending in another letter from him, and should he send it directly or through me? Any help/ideas greatly appreciated.

What you can do:

Submit another letter of recommendation from this NU Grad who can throw light on certain aspects of you, not covered by others

Let the admission officer in charge for your region know of your continued interest and keep him updated on a periodic basis about any new activities that are relevant

Try to do the best you can on all your classes and let NU know about your remaining quarters’ performance.

If at all possible, call your admission officer to see if you can arrange a personal meeting with him/her.

Good Luck!

Do you really think the adcom cares whether the letter writer is an NU grad? I don’t.

I would hope that if an accomplished well regarded graduate who is the professor of the student writes a letter of recommendation. it might be read a bit different than another recommender. A graduate knows what the school is looking for from its student body. It may not make any difference at all in the outcome, but it maybe read with more interest.
