<p>Outside of the 2 required (GC and teacher), I am getting 2 from outside sources that backup my most important EC and declared major. </p>
<p>I am the student head for a program-outside my school-and they have offered to write me a letter. This would back up another big EC of mine.That would make 3 additional letters (but the other 2 are in the same area).</p>
<p>How many letters is too many?</p>
<p>Also-can you check to make sure they recieve these outside letters without annoying the admissions dept.?</p>
<p>That seems like a lot. Only you can really answer that question. You can check the applicant status page and it will have the number of recommendations they've received. I would not call. Colleges do a good job of matching recs to the application folder. You don't want to be a pest</p>

<p>It will list the total number of recommendations they have received. Mine already says 2 and I have yet to send in my part 2 and I know my GC hasn't sent in hers because I haven't given her my paperwork</p>
<p>How many letters are you having sent? If you already have 2 there and you haven't gotten one from your GC (or teacher I imagine) then you have at least 4 and you told me that 3 sounded high. Maybe I misunderstand.</p>
<p>Also-do you mind telling me when you sent in Part 1? When I check applicant services it says for Fall 2004 -they haven't even updated it to 2005. I sent my whole app. in last Tues..</p>
<p>I'll have 3. 1 teacher rec. She did it right away, 1 GC not yet sent, 1 EC rec, she sent it already. NU has the teacher and the EC. I sent in Part 1 at the end of Sept. I'm using the online app. which has an online checklist.</p>
<p>When I visited NU they said they'd consider all "paper" material sent in. When considering how many recs to ask for you need to think what they would really add to your file and you need to be considerate. If everybody sent in a rec for every EC the admission office would be overwhelmed.</p>
<p>I read your original post again. I wouldn't think 4 is too many if they really add something. I just wouldn't bother the admisssion office. Just trust they'll get filed.</p>
<p>That's all they require, but it's basically up to us how many we send in the end (just not too many so as to not have too many letters sent to the admissions office as stated by others earlier).</p>
