Is there such a thing as a combined bachelors/masters degree in Elementary Education? What would be the pros and cons of such a degree, and which colleges, if any, offer it?

Yes. There are some combined programs out there. Off the top of my head I know that Truman State offers a five-year program. The obvious advantage there is the abbreviated time frame. Can’t think of any cons.

Many, many schools have the combined BA/MA program the pros would he you save money and time BUT the cons are that someone without a masters may be hired first because they don’t legally need to paid as much as someone with a masters degree.

Morehead State offers a 5 year program.

Syracuse offers this.

They can save you a lot of money, but I know a graduate that is having a hard time getting hired. Someone warned her, they wouldn’t want to pay more for a Master’s who has less experience but I’ve also known some who had better luck with private schools.

Many school districts pay for your Master’s while you are teaching for them. So you don’t need to spend any money of your own earning a Master’s before looking for a job. Plus, it’s much more difficult securing a position when you have your Master’s because they need to place you higher on the pay scale. Why should they do that when they can hire someone straight our of undergrad and pay them a lot less?

UVA has a similar program. They allow you to major/minor in whatever you want, and then get your masters in Education. It’s also a 5 year program.
