"Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?"

In life, we sometimes become so used to being obedient to orders of tose in authorithy that we fail to realize if their orders are actually benefit to us. In fact, our negligence end up as adisadvantage towards ourselves. This we can see in examples from politics and literature.

First of all, when the first direct votes were given to Korean citizens, it was actually for only the president's own benefit. In 1930's when President Lee Seung Man was in office, for the folowing election, he decreed that citizens of Korea are given rights to vote instead of representative government officials This change, on the ulterior, seems to be a step towards true democracy, but was proven to be opposite. The citizenry failed to protest, content by the fact that they are given right to vote. Hoewever, the true reason behind giving rights to vote was only to lengthen the term of the current president at the time. President Lee, who already altered the National law to lengthen his presidency sought the voting method as the next step to ensure his position as a president. Because representative voting would not ensure his presidency, by the fact that he lost trust from both his own party and the opposing party, he thought direct voting owould ensure him his presidency better. Threfore, the citizenry which failed to question the selfish motives of a dictatorial president only came to realize the tyrranical havoc that they could have precluded only when it was to late.

Like wise, literature also shows us the importance to question authority. In Catch-22, when Yossarian questions the reasons why he can never go back home due to rising number of drills required, he realizes the true havoc of war on himself and his comrades. Rather than accepting orders from higher officials as itself, when he questions the endlessness of the increasing drills, he is given the knowledge to realize the overpowering authority over him which treats soldiers only as killing machines.

In conclusions, both examples from politics and literature shows taht we must question the decisions of authority, rather thatn blindly bey it. Wheter we successfully bringing a change to our lives, the importance to question lies in giving ourselves to chance to bring change.
