So GC needs to send school report, Transcript, mid term, final report etc. I assume if the college you are applying to is part of Common Application, GC can submit all of this on line and wouldn't need to send an report outside of common application. Is this correct?

Trying to get a handle on by what time in Dec I should send all my applications. Is Dec 20th a good target date? Considering vacations starts after that.

Technically, you just need to get your part done by the deadline. Your part includes inviting the counselor and your recommenders, as well as completing the common app and all specific school supplements, and any additional materials such as a music or arts submission. Once you invite your counselor, he or she can elect to submit everything electronically or not. In some schools you need to separately arrange for transcripts to be mailed by a registrar or other person, rather than through your counselor. Many (possibly most) high schools send transcripts separately from the counselor reports, often by mail rather than online. If you have not already invited your recommenders and counselors, make those items your top priority as those people likely have many students other than you to consider.

You should also try to get the point where you can preview your apps early in the process. Once you preview, you can go back and edit to improve the look of your apps as well as content.

When you finally submit your apps online, allow at least a couple days before the deadline, and better yet a full week or more to allow for any delays or glitches in submissions.

I have invited GC, the status says “started”. I have also invited 3 recommenders, the status shows ‘submitted’.

I thought even if you invited GC long before the due date, it is still your responsibility to make sure it is all complete by the due date. You are saying that’s not necessarily true. I have no idea what GC sees, how do they make sure about deadlines etc.

I’m not sure if College directly communicates/sends reminder to GC if they are still waiting on some info.

In CA if you look under GC it shows School report, optional report, MId year report, Final report.

What about the transcript? Does that go under optional report?

If the deadline is Jan1st, what do colleges got to have from GC by deadline in order to consider the application is complete?

I believe GC can submit everything through CA electronically so there won’t be any additional time needed to mail/fax any paperwork. Is this correct?

I’m shooting for Dec 20th as far what I have to do. Rec letters are already submitted.

Your transcript is required at all schools and it varies by high school as to whether it is included by the counselor with the School Report (not the optional report). That is permitted but not required by common app. Many high schools elect to send transcripts separately. At our D’s HS, for example, the students need to make a separate request to the registrar’s office to send each transcript. Her counselor did not include a transcript with the school report. Your high school may take a different approach.

The School Report and transcript both need to be received by your college for your application to be complete, in addition to your main application, any required supplement, any optional supplement, all your recommendations and your official test scores. It is indeed possible for all of this to be submitted electronically.

I thinking about submitting my applications between 20 and 25th Dec which is when the holiday season starts. I have to consider that GC may not be available after 20th of dec and application deadline is Jan 1st.

Can GC finish his or her entire stuff like school report, transcript etc even before I submit the application barring the mid year and final report which will be submitted at a later date. or She can not submit everything required until after I submit the application? She may be able to submit stuff before the application is submitted.

Recommendation letters are already submitted.

If GC can submit whatever is required of her then I’m not dependent on them if I need something during Christmas break.

Yes, the counselor can submit the transcript and school report either before or after you complete all the portions of the application that are within your control. So long as everything (including the counselor’s material) is postmarked or submitted electronically by the due date, you will have met the deadline.

Unlike recommenders, the GC status is not going to show “submitted” in CA because the mid year and final report won’t be done by Jan. What should you see in CA to know that GC has submitted whatever he/she is supposed to submit in order for application to be considered complete by deadline.

Under GC there are four options in CA
School report
Optional report
Mid year report
Final report

I don’t know where would HS transcript fit in the above report. Is that under optional report?

I assume whatever GC submits, will be used by all colleges in CA just like recommendation letters and she wouldn’t have to do anything specific to the college.

The transcript can be sent with the school report or sent separate as an additional item. At our D’s HS, it is sent by the registrar, separate from all the GC materials. You are correct that the GC does not provide anything that is college specific.

Can someone tell what would fall under optional report? MY GC told me she has submitted everything. I see the status is submitted under school report. I do not see anything under optional report, mid year report, final report. I understand midyear and final report aren’t ready yet, what I don’t know is what would be under optional report, if there is one.

The optional report is truly optional and is only used if the GC has a change or update to report. Examples of when it would be used include when a student drops from AP to the regular level in a course or has a change in disciplinary history, or when the GC discovers an error in the original student report that needs correcting.

I need your input. So far I have got rec letters submitted to CA, GC has submitted SR and Transcripts.I have ordered ACT scores to be sent to colleges. Common App essay is complete. I’m working on writing supplements and hope to have that all done by Dec 25 at the latest. Is there anything that can stop me from meeting deadlines of Jan 1? I can understand CA website may be down for a day or two. Even accounting for some delays there. I should still be able to meet the application deadline. Can you provide me some feedback to make sure I’m not missing on any vital detail. We will get FAFSA done in first week of Jan and then work on CSS.

It sounds like you’re basically on track. Are SAT subject tests required by any of your schools or is ACT enough? One other items is to remind your GC to send in the mid-year report with your fall grades as soon as they are available.

For application to consider complete, as long as they get one ACT score by due date that should be fine. The other ACT scores can little later. Correct? I also don’t know how long it takes for colleges to receive score after an order is put in with ACT.

GC told S yesterday (last day of school) that he must submit his Common App in order for her to upload her part. She told him that if he did not submit that day, she would not submit at all. Is this true? Does it have to be submitted for counselors to upload?

Unbeknown to me, he submitted a free app in order for her to do so. Im upset about this because I don’t think his CA essay was up to par! I was planning to have him revise over the winter break. Im so upset! Luckily, I see that you can still change the CA essay for later submissions. Can anyone validate his GC statement?
