Comments on my college list?

I am a junior getting ready to fill out college apps. I would like to know what others think about my list.

Michigan State (in-state, visited)
U of M Ann Arbor (in-state, visited, legacy)
U Wisconsin Madison

I am looking to major in something business related, and possibly hospitality (if business does not work out)

Please let me know what you think about my chances as far as my college list goes! Thanks!

I’d take SAT & ACT every chance you get until December. If you can raise your test-score level even a little bit, u will improve your admissions chances & scholarship money.

Keep in mind that usually getting admitted to a college’s business school is often harder than for other majors. Also, some universities might not admit you directly to their business school–you will have to apply to business school after a year or so there.

With your current test scores, getting in Michigan and Indiana/Kelly will be tough. Wisconsin for business is iffy too.

Check out U of Nebraska at Lincoln…Your 29 ACT should get u a $14,500/per year scholarship, and direct admission to business or hospitality.

Alabama, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Miami (Ohio), Florida State, Mississippi, Kentucky, & Oklahoma State are other places with business that might give you scholarships (most have hospitality too).

Update: I got a 33 on the April ACT. (34 E, 33 M, 34 S, 31 R).

I got a full ride to IU (however, it’s in-state) and a full tuition scholarship to UW-Madison with similar scores (3.88 GPA, 33 ACT). You’re a shoe-in for acceptance, and you’re an auto-admit to the Kelley School of Business with a >30 ACT. As long as you have well-written essays you should be accepted.

@LeftHandedWombat What scholarship was it?

With a 33 ACT you could probably get a lot of aid from Florida State (would likely be cheaper than Mich. State). Alabama would be really inexpensive for you too.

Congrats on your new score. You should have a great chance for UMich LSA. It is likely to be cheaper than most OOS schools. UMich also meet full need and offer pretty good grants.

I am applying to IU this fall and will also apply for direct admission to Kelley. I have a 30 ACT and a 4.79 GPA (weighted, 4.0 scale). Do you think I’ll get in. A part of me is just worrying that they might raise the ACT score requirement, but that seems unlikely since a 3.8 GPA and 30 ACT is very selective (I talked to a senior at Kelley and that’s what they said). Thoughts? @LeftHandedWombat

@pbmcdoug - I got the Cox Research Scholarship

@ngriff1220 - I highly doubt that they’d change the requirements, and because they use weighted GPA in their calculations, I’m fully confident that you will be a Direct Admit. You are a sure-fire for an IU acceptance, in my opinion.

@LeftHandedWombat Thank you so much for the reassurance!

@LeftHandedWombat what scholarship to UW did you get?
