^ Ignore zala!!! Seriously!!! Jesus, colleges like AP’s, but not that much. Plus unless you stay in-state, or w/e, most schools (the big schools) will only look at a select few AP’s for college credit! So one AP as a freshmen is awesome!!! As I mentioned my school only offers AP’s to juniors and seniors, and we still have kids going into Ivy, and other top schools…

For the AMC12… just take the AMC10. I took the AMC12 this year (because everyone else on math team were seniors…), anyway, but afterward she showed us both the tests and there were a few select questions that were different. But since the AMC10 is easier… you will probably do better on that. It is also more relevent to what you will be studying in math before Calc and precalc. Last year there were several questions that required a good knowledge of functions, etc, as well as out-side-the-box thinking for the equations (found that difficult).

Just came back from miami, lol, so

zala2022, i really don’t think i have the ability to handle ap calc bc, physics c or chem because first of all i plan to engage in a lot of social activities and community service and also i think i know way too little about them. So, even if i have time and the interest to take more aps, i would probably choose human geography or psychology becasue i can handle them better at this stage and also they sound very interesting and hg is probably useful for me in jeopardy. Well thanks for the idea anyway.

lostinthought, and Uroogla,
riight now my average amc10 scores are in the 130s and my amc12 scores are in the 120s, and as i will have more practice timebefore the test they will probably both gets into the lower 140s or at least close by that time. So do you guys think that this is good enough for AIME and USAMO. I will also prepare a lot for the AIME and USAMO of course.

Thanks to everybody.

AIME cutoff is 100 for AMC12, iirc. With AMC10, if you make the cutoff (which I forget), you just need to score as high on the AIME as the lowest USAMO qualifier. With AMC12, it’s 10 times your AIME score plus your AMC score, top 475 or so (number my have changed) make USAMO. Cutoff was between 210 and 220 a couple years ago. So if you feel you could get a 140 on the AMC12, go for that.

Hey! I took honors english and algebra II this year…

I wasn’t allowed to take history. and i didn’t take science at all last year so this year i’m taking chemistry.

i take Latin as my foreign language.

i finished my computer requirement in the summer so i could join the choir.

As for APUSH, we have to take AP European history first.

I’d rather have yours than the schedule i just had…my p.e., choir, and homeroom teacher, yes teacher (singular), was kind of annoying.

Latin, when taught well, can be quite enjoyable. A few good Latin teachers in high school are the reason I’m majoring in classics in addition to something more “useful.” It also makes the further study of language easier, if your interests lie there.

Urooga, thanks for this information.
And munch626, interesting that we have some thing to share. AP Euro, I am probably taking it in my junior year with my AP WOrld, I heard that they are some of the most valuable aps and can help me a lot in jeopardy.
Good luck with your studies. :)

A very important question:

Do i have to be in a sports team to show colleges that i do a lot of extracurricular activities?

I def. would like to be in one but i can’t because there is practice everyday, so if i do it then i can’t participate in any other club.
I want to be in math team, physics team, debate team, jeopardy, and mock trial and a lot of community service, lol. So i want to know is it just so important to do a sports to get into an ivy league or otehr top colleges.

Thank you very much, please answer asap :)

I was not on a sports team beyond what physical activities were required by my high school (intramural tennis was my “sport” and I listed it, but it was not competitive at all). If you find something you love and can pour your time into, I believe that’s enough, whether or not it’s sports related.

Thank you, that helped a lot.

bump 10 char

I’m going to be a freshman too, and I’m really excited. I guess what I’ll do this year is to go into my interests and by sophomore year, develop them more and stick with the ones I like the most.

I highly doubt that sports are vital to get into top colleges. Think of the thousands that apply that are captains of their varsity sports teams and don’t get in. Just pursue what you enjoy doing.

My extracurriculars for next year are dance (ballet, modern, jazz), speech and debate team, photography, and volunteer work at a homeless shelter. I also plan on joining a couple of other clubs to see what I like.

Best of luck to your freshman year!! I plan on not going on CC. It sucks so much time out of your day. Thank goodness it’s only summer right now. :)

Hey, we are freshies!

Anyway, good luck to you as well and maybe we will meet each other one day in a debate contest or so.

Have a fun freshman year.
:)
