Reed has a urban location, but the Pacific Northwest is an outdoorsy area, and my impression is that the outdoors recreational opportunities are good for those that want them.
There is an active Reed Outdoor Programs and Education (ROPE) program:
Reed has a PE requirement, and they can afford great PE options because they aren't paying for NCAA sports. So you can take classes like outdoor navigation, river or sea kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding, or skiing for PE. http://www.reed.edu/sports_center/pe-requirement/classes.htmlStudents can also use the College’s large and well-furnished cabin on Mt Hood (about 50 miles east), which has great access to hiking and downhill/cross-country skiing.
