At first I wondered that perhaps a mistake had been made with the first decision letter, the one that said "no thanks." I even called them to double check! At least NYU has stopped bugging us (my D didn't even apply there).

Oh my gosh yes! PP is still sending all kinds of mail! Since D was academically accepted she keeps getting the congratulation letters and welcome letters, newsletters, PR material and finally she got a financial aid package based on the conservatory, even though she wasn't accepted! I'm too tired to even call and say anything!

Plus, who knows what's going to happen, if she doesn't get in to any of the programs she auditioned for. We do have that story about her old classmate didn't get in till her third try. :-)

NotMamaRose, you gave me a good chuckle! Thanks!

SarasMom, knowing how a lot of actors/MTers feel about math, it seemed particularly funny. :)
By the way, last year I heard of a young lady who got a rejection letter from Juilliard. The only trouble? She did not even audition there.
I also recall kids being bummed last year because they were waiting to hear their decisions from UArts and when big envelopes arrived, their hearts soared until they opened them up and found some kind of brochure or calendar.
Guys, what else can we do but laugh? ;)

My S got a rejection letter from Rosevelt on Monday. He never filled out an application or auditioned for the program. He just made a phone call last Summer asking questions! We got a good giggle out of the letter when it came...maybe that happens more than we know?!

bbutcher.....that is too funny!

Bbutcher, it makes you think that these programs aren't really as selective as they claim. Sure does bump up the selectivity rating if you consider every phone call an applicant!

Well, those stories are just too much! Agreed, can't help but laugh. :-)

I haven't had a chance to read some of the earlier posts this month until now. I was struck by the fact that OCU's rejection letter sounds EXACTLY like the one my D got from MMC which was so hurtful. Wonder if there was a workshop this summer on writing rejection letters? Here is the exact wording in MMCs letter:
"Based on your audition for the BFA in Acting major and the Musical Theatre minor at MMC, the Theatre Arts faculty has determined that your audition did not demonstrate the level of technique necessary for admission to these programs. While we understand that this decision is a disappointment to you, we also know that prospective students chose to audition for programs in theatre that are competitive. Our prospective students are searching for the strongest theatre education and training they can find, and strong programs have selective admissions requirements...we encourage you to consider attending the College and choosing another major in our curriculum...'

We thought about sending a letter to recruitment about the rudeness of this wording, but since my D has not received any rejection letters before we thought maybe they all are like this! Thank God she has had a successful Freshman year being one of only a couple of freshmen cast in two important shows. She was also placed with the top vocal coach who has only juniors and seniors in her studio. Otherwise, this wording could have made her consider nursing! ha

SarasMom--Thanks so much for your kind words of support. Maybe NYU loved them both so much that they will meet in the fall! Or maybe NYU is kinder and gentler to the self esteems of young emerging artists. To nurture and create hope in the heart of a vulnerable student pursuing the very best for herself says a lot about NYU and its people.

Positive thought.....

By no means do I intend for anyone to come away with false hope until "that letter that confirms everything" drops into the mail box, but... my D too during her NYU audition found herself feeling that the adjudicator actually took a real interest in her as a person, and especially when it came time to discuss the different studio's. The adjudicator thought she'd be a great fit for CAP21. D received her "black & white confirmation" three weeks later (ED) :D.

sarasmom & blank slate: keeping fingers & toes crossed with all our might!

I got my rejection letter from Syracuse. No surprise though. It was a mediocre audition, not to mention I don't think Syracuse and I really "clicked".

Ah, freedom I am sorry, but 'not clicking' is definitely not a good thing. Did you hear from Shenandoah yet?

Freedom....I wish I could create a musical theater program of my own just so I could accept you!!!!

HANG IN THERE!!

Sorry to hear that Freedom. I wish you good news from Shenandoah & Webster. :-)

Blank Slate - what a terrible way to word a letter! Glad your daughter's in a place that appreciates her. Jeez!

I agree! Win, lose or draw, NYU treated the kids with care and it does say a great deal about their program and their teachers. But, how lovely it would be for our d's to meet up in the Fall!

MTgrlsmom, thank you for your d's story and all those crossed fingers and toes! We'll find out soon enough heh? We're keeping the faith!

Blank slate, that letter is even worse than the OCU one! Glad that she proved them wrong.

Freedom, although obviously I don't know you, I enjoy the humor & charm that comes through in your posts. I'm rooting for you.

Ditto everything StickerShock wrote above!

Blankslate, I am sorry your D had to read that. Totally insensitive. A rejection letter does not need to be that way at all. I used to do hiring (and firing, ick) and my nonhire letters to grown adults were waaay kinder and more positive than that. I'd be right there with you thinking about sending a nastygram back. And, frankly, as a nurse, I resent the "why don't you try nursing or math" line. An actor is an actor because of a love of theater....a math major loves math.........and a nurse, hopefully, loves nursing and all it entails. Granted there is a shortage but that type of suggestion is stupid. Good luck and hope all the mail improves, soon.

I also received that "lovely" Marymount rejection. I thought it was pretty classless of them to word it that way, as if their program was the end all and be all of everything. I've had three rejections so far, but I'm still waiting to hear from a whole herd of schools:
Ithaca
Syracuse
Emerson
BoCo
Pace
NYU Tisch
Boston University

Hopefully, the fact that I've yet to hear anything from some of the schools that have started notifying people does not mean that I won't get an acceptance soon...

My D rejected from Syracuse as well received today.

karenteic - so sorry to hear, you guys do still have some schools to hear back from right? Will keep sending positive thoughts your way and some "cyber hugs" too, this is one tough process.
