Hi guys,
Im currently starting to work on my main common app essay, the 250-500 words one.
Since "time" is a large part of my life, as it relates to my hobbies, my volunteering, etc, I want to write my essay on time. However, since I'm applying for a business or economics major, time does not apply at all to my major.

What I'm asking is whether its necessary to talk about your intended major (direction in college) in your personal statement?

From what I have seen, not at all. Your essay can be as creative, personal, analytical or straightforward as you would like. A lot of people will write about things that have nothing to do with their major, more likely it will be about their personality or experiences. If you have no EC’s that relate to your academic plans, maybe you can write about something relating to your intellectual interests in some way. Sometimes the schools you are applying to will ask about that in a supplement anyway, like 80% percent of the ones I am applying to will do that, so I am skipping that in my common app. good luck:)
