I have an important question regarding the common app essay. I am writing on the free choice, and I have written about some passion of mine outside of school, which is mainly a hobby but I have extended it to a broad scale by putting up exhibits at science centers and judging competitions.

I was initially wanting to write about how this is linked to my intended major (computer science and computer engineering), and how it has helped me develop my passion about this subject as well. However, I'm beginning to wonder if I am supposed to do that?

This is mainly because, some schools that I'm applying to have supplemental essays which ask me to elaborate on my passion for my intended major and how I got interested in that subject.

As such, there may be quite a bit of overlapping on those 2 topics. So is that topic a wise choice for common app essay? Or should I stick with my topic and just remove the intended major part in my common app essay or use this essay as my supplemental?

Any advice will be really appreciated!!!
