O lordyyy, Wish the Common App was more like the British UCAS form...

Why do all schools want SUPPLEMENTARY crap?

And I need advice..
What do you write when every single school asks you:
"Why are you interested in our school? Why do you want to come here? How is it going to be good for you.. blah blah blah"

AND!
Any advice on how to get through silly short answer questions?

Oh gosh I hate it too! I don't know about the UCAS (I was thinking of applying to LSE but have never even been to England and I think it would be too much culture shock + expensive travel) but it couldn't be worse than the Commonapp! The short answers suck, I basically just try to think of something creative and use big words, and try to sound eccentric haha. When they say why do you want to come here, avoid talking about the school's location because that's what everyone says. Talk about the curriculum, student body, culture, etc.

Ok kiki, I was just in England in Oct... here's my take on England.
And I lived in England before.

But honestly, England is not the place to be... The whole of Up North is just Granny-ville. I went up to the Lake District, York and places and there are NOOOO young people.

And London.. I personally think, is no way as good as New York City... It's not as up-beat, fast pace, exciting and everything else!
I just find the UK dull... and the weather isn't that appealing. I think even Paris is more exciting than London...
Oh but one good thing about London... Museums are free entry... But the Tate Galleries are no way as good as MOMA or the Met..

I mean it's Europe, there's a whole different feeling to it.. If you like the old buildings and the historical feel about those cities then you may like it. And the unis in England are not as nice as American unis (apparantly Oxbridge have really nice campuses, but all the London unis including LSE is just an odd building here and there) I actually went past LSE and it's highly unimpressive.
And arguably the quality of education is better in the US anyway.

Yes, I'm sure they'll appreciate a sense of humor and it might make you stick out. Gosh you are a world traveler! Are you an American or a native of Singapore? I've always wanted to visit, I'v heard it is so beautiful there and I find the culture fascinating.

But if I write something along the lines of what go said??? Will they find that funny? lol

What Singapore beatiful and culturally fascinating??
Hmm.. maybe, I suppose, but I've lived here 8 years so it's kind of lost its appeal. But yeh Singapore's a great place to visit.. just don't stay too long~

I'm Korean. But I'm a citizen of the world! :)
Yeh I travel quite a bit.. moved around a lot...

Well sounds like you've had a very interesting life, hopefully Columbia will like that :-) What time is it in Singapore right now?

Do not say that you are just applying to their "lousy school", but it's okay to have satire or a sense of humor. My essay, for example, is about my love of tuna fish and how it has transformed my life. It is not completely serious, but more of a satire. Hope that helps!

Yeh normally class starts at 8:10am so I usually get to school around 7:45am.
But on Wed, I have 1/2 free so I don't have to go in till tutor group (I think you guys call it homeroom or homebase or something) which is at 9:30.

Um.. yep email it to me
i'll send you a private message with my email.. hang on

Thank you for using the on-line Common Application! Your application has been successfully received and is on its way to the colleges you have selected.
