I am confused about counselor lors, transcript and school report requirement.
In common app, all the schools show a section for counselor (and all the possible forms they would send) - the HS uses naviance.
When researching the schools websites though, it seems some don’t use letters of recommendation though doesn’t specify Counselor (and use SRAR instead of transcript). But maybe the school simply doesn’t accept teacher letters of recommendation but still want counselor forms? Confusing. A bunch of schools also don’t ask for mid year reports, but the form is listed under counselor section under every school. I’m assuming it’s all listed as default for everything.
The schools are:
Pitt, Rutgers, Va Tech, and Penn State - don’t take letters of recommendation; they use SRAR rather than official transcript; and mid year report not required per website (though Rutgers says to update mid year grades using SRAR)
So do you ignore the counselor section for these schools or still submit them just in case?
Rutgers just joined the Common App with this application cycle, so things may be a bit transitional there. Sounds like they are still not using the Common App’s grade section and asking students to use their SRAR instead (which is kind of a pain). Even when they used their own app until this year, they required a separate SRAR process for grades.
For our S23 (and prior students), the counselor, school report and transcript section of the Common App was informational but not something the applicant entered. It was up to the school to do so (in our case after the student linked their Common App with Naviance), and it was up to each college to use what they wanted from the Common App. Our S23 didn’t personally have to select which schools to send it to. Perhaps different for some people? He did have to use the information page on the Common App to chase one of the LoC’s submissions from the school, but that was a different issue.
Oh ok, that would make things so much easier if that’s the case. We thought you had to request counselor forms for each school that requires them. Too easy then. Thanks!
