im applying to Cornell RD -- my cornell supplemental essay is good and my stats are fine (2340 SAT, lots of leadership, solid gpa) but my common app essay is horrible, its well written and everything but it doesn't reveal anything about me

do i still have a shot at getting in even though the common app essay is bad? how big of a role does it play in admissions?

Everything has weight, and I'd think that essays are pretty important, because they give impressive academic candidates like you the opportunity to reveal something about themselves.

You've got a few days - if you think your common app essay is that bad, free write another and see how it goes! Whether or not you've turned it in to other places, you can create an alternate version of the common app online, and upload a different essay to turn in to Cornell.

Why did you only realize your essay is bad after turning it in? Sounds like you might just be over-scrutinizing yourself and overthinking your essay. I hope so, anyway.

ya...i wrote about a summer program too - - i thought it was kinda bad... but i just really wanted to write about that experience... it was very meaningful to me : ) maybe it wasn't that bad... i was accepted ED too ^^

good luck! maybe its not that bad! your SAT is amazing tho congrats!
