So after changing my common app essay topic for the third time, I’ve decided to write about an event that I participated in, to create winter clothing kits for displaced Syrian refugee children. In my essay, I’m thinking about writing about how this event has helped broaden my perspective on the world as a global network linked in suffering and triumph and about how I recognized a fundamental duty to both local and global communities. Is this topic too cliche and commonly written about?
I think it’s too cliche and not personal enough.
The real answer is: it depends on the level of colleges you want.
The prompts may seem general, but this isn’t the same as some essay for hs. Yes, the colleges appreciate global perspective, but you have to “show, not just tell.” What shows this “fundamental duty” besides participating in one project?
I think it might be a good idea if you shared / PMed your other ideas.
