Common App FAQ 2011

I decide to start a thread where we could answer each others questions about the common app.

I'll start, If my counselor fills out the secondary school report, do I have to request my transcript be sent or does she do it?

Totally depends on your school, you’ll have to ask her. I had to fill out a form for every college I wanted mine sent to, but other schools do things differently.

Thanks, questions?

I have really messed my activities section of my application. And I’ve already ED to a college.
Can I make a new application ID for the rest of my regular admission colleges?

^YES YOU CAN! I had a freak-out when I found 3 typos in my essay and my short answer, and then I found out you can make new copies of the Common App:

Go to the “Instructions” tab on the green menu on the left

Scroll down to “Additional Versions” (it’s a little farther than 1/2 down)

Copy the URL in that section

Log out

Paste the URL into your search bar and go to it

Log back in

Voila! Click on the “Replicate” button to make a new version that looks just like the old one, and go fix the typos

There should be a tiny pull-down menu in the top right of the screen, with “Original” and “Version 1” in the menu. Go back to “Original”

Go to “My colleges”

Click on a college. In the white box underneath your list of colleges, there should be a button that says “Move College”. Move all of your colleges to Version 1.

Any time you want to make a new version, go back to the instructions page.

In the interest of compiling information, here is a post from geek_mom:

I have four transcripts that I’m able to send in. Grade 9, O Levels, Grade 11 and Predictied grades for A levels. Grade 9 and Os will be uploaded together under one report and grade 11 and preds under one report.

One of the colleges that I’m applying to does not require the grade 9 and grade 11 transcripts. Almost all of the others insist on everything. By not including these two transcripts, I think that my chances of getting in will improve exponentially as my grades there are just plain lousy.

So, according to the replication of application function, will I (or rather my counselor) be able to just upload O levels and pred grades, submit it to that one university, duplicate the application and then upload the grade 9 and 11 transcripts to send to the other universities?

Does my question even make sense?

After finally being able to get a second version of my Common App made (which took forever!!), I can’t move the two schools I have yet to apply to the second version. Can someone please help me? I made a major mistake filling out my first app and I’d like to finish my applications soon.

I want to apply to more than 20 colleges. ( yes, I know its a lot!)
However, common app isnt letting me… is it okay if i send in a paper app to the colleges? … if yes, theres another problem… my school has said that they will submit the transcripts etc online … will it be okay if i send them offline?
