There is a section that requires u to name an intended major. Since I am applying for engineering at cornell, i chose engineering. However, some liberal arts colleges are also on the list that do not have any engineering programs...
Is it better to stick with Engineering or just leave it undecided???

you have to pick the college when you apply to cornell. even if you don't pick a major (which is perfectly normal in arts, i'm not sure about engineering admissions, perhaps the engineers can tell you), you still must choose the general college or school to which you will apply at Cornell. Hum ec, Ag, Hotel, A&S, eng, ILR, art architecture planning, i might be missing one...

I heard if you go in undecided, you get assigned a college, and it's pretty easy to change colleges..

NO! If you go undecided, it means you haven't picked a major. If you don't pick a college, you'll pretty much automatically be rejected, considering your academic interest essay #2 would suck/be impossible.

I mean that wouldn't happen, it would just be impossible to complete the supplement without noticing you have to pick a college. If you go undecided for major (once again, you must pick a college) you're just like a very significant portion of the incoming freshman class. Theres no disadvantage in being undecided.

but the problem is the common app is also used to apply LACs....by putting like engineering, will that hurt chances of admission to LACs that don't have any engineering department???

ok. so if im interested in the engineering department of one school but is interested in another school's business dep. and both schools use the common app. im screwed?

I believe you are able to fill out the common app and send it to one or more schools, and then revise the common app and send to another school or schools. It should explain this on the common app website. That way you can tailor your responses to each school.

OMG, just change the frickin app for each school! submit it with whatever you want for each school, just like odyssey just suggested.
