common app personal essay questions! please respond :]

Hey guys,
Honestly how long should the personal essay for the common app be? I know there's a minimum of 250, but is there a certain point where an admissions officer is like: oh, more than one page?! REJECTED!
Also, is there any special formatting for the essay? Do I have to double space, indent paragraphs/not indent paragraphs, or have a heading?
Thanks!

Sarobbi… I was actually wondering the exact same question!

So sorry, I’m not going to be much help…

I advise that you write your essay without regard for length and edit it for content, style and grammar only until you are happy with it. Then, go back and edit for length, taking out as much as you can without losing the meaning or the feel of the essay.

I think they would want to be as close to as possible to what they asked. Some college say they will read it while other say be as close as possible.

My opinion if you don’t: 1. Cannot not follow direction. 2. Not capable of summarizing.

davh01, I think the OP was asking about the common app essay, which is pretty vague on the directions length-wise as it only has a minimum word count. So even a pretty long essay isn’t really going against what was asked for. But what does “pretty long” mean? Good question. I’m dealing with the same issue right now… I’m sure plenty of other people have asked this at some time in the past…
