common app PROBLEM

so i submitted my application with plenty of time... but i have a huge problem.

on the supplemental second essay, i used an ellipsis ("...") in the SECOND SENTENCE OF MY FIRST PARAGRAPH. so it's right at the beginning.

anyway, i went through and fixed all the smart quotes, like the common app website instructs. except, apparently the ellipsis is a problem as well, and after i submitted the suplement i saw that the website changed the ellipsis to an ampersand ("&"). which makes absolutely NO SENSE in the context of my essay. and it's right at the beginning.

WHAT DO I DO???

i e-mailed the commonapp people, and they haven't gotten back to me yet... but seriously, help?

there is NO CHANCE of admittance with the "&"... it seriously does not make sense.

can i change it, even though the deadline has passed????

please help.

First of all... breathe, my friend.

Unless it screws up the rest of your essay, you shouldn't worry about a "&". People have gotten in with typos before. That's my two cents anyway.

This is also a typo that a lot of people who've used ellipses will have encountered, so adcoms would be aware that the common app site's xenophobic toward ellipses :)

For future reference, to get ellipses you'll have to use three separate periods, disable the auto correct in your MS Word.

yeah i had the elipses problem too...the only solution is to proforead, porofread, proofread (haha) in print preview until you know it is perfect...

as for the elipses, chillax. the admissions committee knows all.

whew. ok i've definitely calmed down some. so thank you :)

i'm going to call the admissions office tomorrow and see if they can change it, but hopefully (as you said) if i can't they'll know what i mean.

Aren't you supposed to checkmark the box that says you have print previewed and reviewed your entire application? I'm pretty sure Yale doesn't like liars.

I'm just joshing. I wouldn't be concerned at all. One dumb technical problem (that's not even your fault) doesn't tell anything about you in face of your actual essays, transcripts, recs, etc.
