COMMON APP Q ON LIBERAL STUDIES CORE PROGRAM

On the common application, it asks whether I want to be considered for the liberal studies core program or the global liberal studies program. Should I take it? What are the pros/cons?

Hello! I applied ED 1. I chose to be considered for the global liberal studies because a) it’s a chance to study abroad, b) it feeds directly into CAS which was my first choice school (I believe it feeds into others, as well, but I can’t name them, and c) it’s apparently rather easy to get into compared to, say, Stern. I’m glad I chose this to fall back on because I wasn’t accepted to CAS. This classes are also really small, comparable to those at actual liberal arts schools and it lacks emphasis on maths and sciences, where I tend to do worse. Anyway, considering the small class sizes and spending a year abroad, I remember hearing that the students become close-knit, which sounds nice. I’ve always heard that it’s work to find a good group of friends at NYU. A con, I suppose, is having to go abroad the first year, which has me apprehensive. Other than that, I honestly can’t think of anything. Hope this helped!

@nyorbust‌ so if you’re accepted to this program, you’re not really in a “school” like cas or sterns?

@anonye well, “liberal studies” would fall under Arts and Sciences, so in terms of a physical school it’d be there. Otherwise, it is a type of school just like Stern is a school for business, it’s a school for liberal studies.
