Common App Reccomendations

It says that you have to give teacher recs to one in an "academic" subject. One of my colleges wants 2, and I want to give one to my Adv. Journalism teacher/Newspaper Adviser, she knows me the absolute best of any adult in the school. The college doesn't mention anything about teacher recs on their website, and I think it'll be my first choice... What do I do?

Well, my D is in the same situation and here is what she did. Her major is going to be Print Journalism, but because the Common App asked for an "academic" teacher for the recommendation, we also had her Journalism teacher write one and submitted it to her school's as an "extra". Her 11th grade English teacher did the rec, but J teacher knows D's capabilities as a writer just as well, but it is strange to think that they don't consider them to be "academic" teachers.

Get a recommendation from the teacher who knows you best, by all means. But some colleges require 2 recommendations from teachers who have had you in an "academic" subject, which may not include journalism. The solution: get 3 recommendations. 1 from the teacher who knows you best, and 2 from academic teachers.
