Common App Recommendations

I'd just go ahead and invite my teachers online and explain the situation and the whole online vs. paper thing. They choose how to do it. I'll just wait till my teacher responds, so I'd know if I need more envelopes or not. And I would not risk giving out forms w.out ID.

one of my teachers wants to do the rec online although at my school we traditionally do it by paper. reading through this thread, i noticed some people mentioned a "invite" button under school forms but i dont see it. instead, the instructions for me simply say "There are a number of school forms that are required to be submitted with your application. These are outlined in the list below. Your school currently uses Counselor's Office, an online tool from Naviance. The forms below can also be completed and submitted electronically by your counselor or instructor(s) through Counselor's Office. Otherwise, using the forms below, they may complete the form once, copy, and submit to one or more member institutions. If your school requests that you print these forms out, and you have completed the Personal Data and Address sections of the Common Application, some of the applicant information will be printed on the forms for you." should i talk to my school counselor about adding teachers or am i missing something?

Mine says the same thing, except it says they can be submitted electronically through Naviance...I don't have any "invite" option.

I think this question was talked about a couple pages back, but it wasnt clearly answered..

if we do the RECOMMENDATION letters in PAPER, do we have to send in our APPLICATION portion in PAPER also O_O? and is this for all schools or some schools? Because i have one teacher who barely knows how to turn on a computer and it worries me...

thanks

What your teacher does is independent of what you do. Go ahead and file the application online and get your teacher to do it offline.

As a clarification question, we're forced to invite our teachers/counselor and then they're forced to print off the forms themselves if they want to submit via paper?

Nope, no one is forced to. You can do the invitation thingy, but if you leave out their email addresses, the system automatically assumes that your teachers are filing them via paper, and the pdfs will be made available for YOUR download.

Azn4eyes00 -
Thank you so much for the instructions on printing the Teacher Evaluation form with the Common App ID number on the bottom. Tech support at Common App gave me incorrect information. I deleted the teacher and then added her back without the email address and it worked exactly as you indicated.

No problem. I hope I helped out others as well. It sure gave me a hell of a headache. and yea, the commonapp tech team is incompetent.

@everyone
ALL HAIL azn4eyes00!!

i just went to submitt all of my applications through the common app and it would not send it bc it said i have to still submit my teacher recs and ED agrremnet online...however i printed these forms out and will send them as paper copies..not online.........so what do i do???

If you use online recommendations, do the recs go to all the schools you apply to? Or do you have to have seperate recs per each school?

i have the same question as PatM1401. it wont let me submit my apllication to any of the schools. my teachers have both sent the letters in the mail to the schools but i cannot send my common app in!

The common application process is terribly twisted. It's criminal how the process is so confusing regarding supplements, and submission of teacher recs. After all the hard work the students have done, then they get jerked around by incompetent CommonApp procedure and communication. Is this organization in partnership with the CollegeBoard?!

Be wary, juniors, next year's the CommonApp will have a prospectus and derivitives.

One glitch in azn4eyes00!'s suggestion about printing out teacher recs and counselor's forms. Although the fields are populated with student info, the Common App ID does not appear on the pages when you print it out in PDF.

This has been brought up many times in this thread, but i'm still terribly confused.
1. My school uses Naviance.
2. My teachers want to do recs online.

Therefore. How do they go about doing it? Is there something I need to do? Is it all on them through commonapp or naviance?

I totally don't get this...

You "invite" them through the common application school forms.

..... and how do I do that?
I've looked and can't seem to figure out where this option is.

Wow I did what azneyes said and although my number shows up in PDF it doesn't print out. This is REALLY making me mad...

If you use Naviance you can't "invite" teachers. I think the counselors are able to do it online through Naviance or something...
