I'm trying to write an essay about the reasons for my transfer to a new college. The thing is, I'm not sure what I want to major in because I am interested in accounting, design, and psychology... When I'm writing my essay should I specify exactly what program I want to go into. In that case, I would have to write a different essay for each school, because they all offer different majors.

anyone???

Talk about your interests, explain why you are interested in those things and that you aren’t sure which one you are going to pick as a major, talk about why you want to transfer out of your current college, what you are looking for in a college, and definitely talk about your future plans/goals/dreams…etc. etc.

The importance of talking about a specific major is going to be different if you’re applying for a soph transfer vs. a jr transfer. As a soph, it isn’t a problem that you’re not sure about your major, but as a transferring jr, you will be declaring your major immediately and so it will likely be a bigger part of why you want to go to a specific school.

As far as writing different essays for different schools, that’s not a problem as the CA lets you write an essay, send your app to a school(s), modify the essay (or any other part of your app, and send it to another school, etc.

Well I think you kind of answered your own question in a way. You don’t NEED to talk about your major - just talk about why you want to leave and what you can contribute to the university you wish to attend.

I had to fill out the CA transfer application this past year, and I didn’t mention my major much - I talked about the one-dimensionality of my previous school, since it was an engineering school, and how the Art High School I went to taught me to appreciate the Liberal Arts in spite of my technical interests and that I now sought a university that outputted a well-rounded individual.
