for “activities” what do you do if you did non-varsity sport 9th and 10th but then was varsity 11th and 12th? do you have to create separate ones for each?

Hey adrivit, I’m in my gap year too. Where are you from?

I second this question.

No. The peer evaluator sends his/her evaluation separately.

They can do either or both. It’s their choice.

They sign the original and make copies. The signature does not have to be original.

Unless the school has rolling admissions, it is of no benefit to send the application in September. You can complete the app in September, go back and revise, and submit before Thanksgiving and still be in good shape for RD. That eliminates some of the issue of updating activities. If you do take up another significant activity (note the adjective) after you’ve submitted your application, feel free to send an update.

No.

Thanks!!!

There is the one thing about my life that I would like the adcoms to know so that they can review my app “in context” … but I can’t make the essay about that coz its too gloomy and all. So where do I put it in??

if its like a problem that would of affected your grades, then i would have your guidance counselor talk about. then it doesnt appear as a sob story.

thanks!!

and can we fill in the commonapp part by part and send the form when its completed to the univs?? And can different froms be sent to different univs??

I scored in the 99th percentile on a somewhat regional/interstate American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) Test. Also, I passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, which is a Tokyo-based international language test.

Am I allowed to put these two things in the awards section? I don’t know where else I would put them. Also, how should I “call” them. For example, if I can put it in the awards section, can I just write “99th percentile, AATG Test”? (but write out the words for AATG).

Awards are awards, including for language tests.

You cannot send the Common App itself in pieces; you can only send it when complete. However, supplements, teacher recs, school reports, etc. are sent separately.

I was not asking that. Can we complete it part by part, saving along the way and then send the complete from once its complete??

Oh, yes, you can work on your forms as long as it takes up till the deadline, and then send in the whole batch when you are done, after possibly many days of working and saving your work.

If one of my parents is deceased, do I still have to fill out all of the fields (besides name, et cetera)?

How come when i search for Georgetown and Columbia nothing comes up?

edit: is this because gtown and columbia do not use the common application?

Neither Georgetown nor Columbia use the Common App. Georgetown’s application is available on their website and Columbia’s will be available by September 1.

list of schools that accept the common app?

And since we’re going to be Seniors next year, do we put First Year students?

Hopeful CEO, yes, we do put first year students.

Most schools use the common app. it should soon have a listing on it’s website, but for now you can just google the name of the school you’re thinking of applying to together with common app, like “College B common app” and you should find whether or not they take it.

Of course the list is on the Common Application website, which is well worth a bookmark or favorites marking, and you’ll find the full list under Member Colleges & Universities:

https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Members.aspx

Not every college accepts the Common Application yet, but an awful lot do.

Does anyone have an idea for this?

I see commonappguy now has the member designation “Common App Tech Support” (where I have “Super Moderator”), so evidently the College Confidential management has verified his staff relationship in the Common Application organization and we can trust what he says about the Common Application. Welcome aboard, and thanks for keeping the Common Application FAQ thread so full of informative replies.
