- 0.5 credit each semester.
- What you put is fine. Put any achievements that you’re proud of, but don’t overfill the page.

Return of the King!!!

MODERATOR NOTE to “Some stupid questions, some not so stupid questions…” thread:

I’ll merge this thread with: CA Q&A sticky thread.

On the academic section where it says:

“List all other secondary schools, including summer schools as well as summer and other programs, you have attended, beginning with 9th grade.”

Does this mean list the summer programs you have done?
For example I have done:

VA Girl’s State (11th Grade)

VA Governor’s School (11th Grade)

LeadAmerica (10th Grade)

GMU College Prep Program (9th-10th Grade)

dchow08: thank you, that helped.

Elastine:

2) In the ECs section, if I got some work i did During the school year AND in summers, do i make 2 separate entries for it?
Either way, but it seems natural to consolidate them as one activity in which you can check both the “school year” and “summer” boxes. Only a maximum of seven activities are allowed.

3) Is it generally appropriate to include a description of your ECs on the Additional Info section?
There is 100 chararacters worth of room to describe each of your EC’s in the Activities section. For a more complete picture students compose and attach an “activity resume” in the additional info section. If you do this, I suggest you keep it to one page.

4) Do unpaid internships come under work experience or ECs?
Not sure. I would be inclined to list them as EC’s if there is room, as “work experience” equates with “employment” and “employment” equates with compensation for labor.

5) Would learning a language just for fun be an EC? I was wondering where to put that.
Seems a stretch to me unless you have been disciplined about it and have generally followed a regular schedule in pursuing it. I suggest elaborating on it in the short answer section.

6) Can the additional info section be used to include your reasons to apply to a school ED?
Since you can apply to only one school ED, it would seem more appropriate to include that information in the supplement particular to that school. If there is no such supplement, I suggest you send directly a letter explaining your reasons if you feel they are important to the review of your application.

I’m not so sure if this is the right place to ask..

In Comman App supplements, Some of the colleges want me to list other colleges that I’m applying to.
Could it be a disadvantage for me if the college adcom can see where else I’m applying to?

NO! Colleges want you to apply to other colleges, they aren’t fools to think that students are gonna apply to their college only! Don’t worry!! Just make sure that you don’t think that you are haphazard while choosing colleges, all colleges on your list should have a common reason as to why they are on your list — for example, MIT and Amherst don’t actually fit!!

lol adrivit
i might be wrong, but i dont think dchow returned, a moderator just moved another thread into this one…haha

Hmmm … ya that might be the case!

Ah, the glimpse …

@ Descartesz: Thank you very much! :)

Sorry, I already asked this already, but I think it might’ve gotten lost in the thread…

I’m currently taking BC calculus through [CTY Online](http://cty.jhu.edu/cde/index.html), and I’ll probably get an A+. I’m not getting school credit or taking calculus in school next year, so I would like this mentioned. Should I attach my CTY transcript to my application, and if not, how should I mention this course? (CTY is Middle States accredited, like a high school, I think.)

I guess attach the transcript and do ask your GC to speak about it in her reco! Anybody??

Ok, I have a question and I’d be most thankful if anyone can answer it! :)

I have a very unique EC that I’m very passionate in, but it requires a fairly detailed explanation. I was planning on explaining it in the 150 word EC short answer box, but after starting my rough draft, I realized that I was over 200 words and only about half to two-thirds done explaining it. My next though was to attach my explanation of it in the “additional information” section. However, the short answer on my ECs is a required box. So

Is it appropriate for me to explain my #1 EC in an attached document under additional information? I’m also planning on briefly explaining my other 2 major EC’s in the attached document.

If so, should I do a 150 synopsis for the EC short answer box, OR write about my next favorite EC?

OK. Finally someone has a difficult problem. What I think, is that you should try to fill in the compulsory 150 word section with how that EC changed you as a person. A line can go to what the EC is, but that place is actually for what the EC means to you, how’s it good for you, etc.
In the additional info, use it well! If you feel explaining your EC is the best thing to do, go for it! But you can also attach a resume sort of thing, can’t u?

Is the maximum for honors and academic achievements really 5? Because there are more national ones that I would like to list

No. See, there’s a hidden list somewhere, and you have to find it out. I guess Reverse String Mutation is the key to breaking the code. All the best!!

PS: There is a sense that is common to all. To me, to you and your next door neighbor … please utilize that!

Cheers!

Everytime my daughter completes a supplement, she pays her fee and submits the common application for that college - or at least she tries to. Initially, it looks like she is succesful submitting common application but when she rechecks - it says not submitted because future plans section not complete. But it won’t let her complete this section.
How can you be sure common application was actually submitted?

How come it’s not letting her complete that section? What message does it give?

And when you submit the common app you get a confirmation email.

Reposting because I didn’t really get an answer:

I don’t know if its been answer but what about non-academic awards?
The common app says:
"Briefly list any academic distinctions or honors you have received since the ninth grade or international equivalent (e.g. National Merit, Cum Laude Society). "
I have won the Presidential Service Award and I really don’t know where it would go. I have tried to figure it out but I’m really stumped. Anybody know?
