Common College Interview Questions

I’ve had a couple of weird ones:

If you were a tour guide for your city, where would you bring people to?

Where do you see yourself in 15 years? (I hate this question)

If someone gave you $15,000, what would you do with it?

What do you wish you could add to the college application?

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

elau,
Jimmy was kidding.
Be prepared to talk a little bit about yourself, what you like to do in your free time, how you spent your summer, what you would do if you took a year off, and what you liked about the college you are being interviewed for. It strikes me as odd, and ill-prepared to go to an interview and not know much of anything about the school for which you are being interviewed. Why do you want to go there? What makes it a good fit for you? If you have visited, what did you like/dislike about it? Also, know a little something about vurrent events. It may be a topic of conversation too.

Haha, I couldn’t tell if he was joking since this is the internet of course xP
And how specific do they go into on current events??

Daughter was asked - If you were on the cover of Time Magazine 10 years from now, why would you be there?

bummpp…

“What teacher or class has been most influential during your high school career?”

also, ask questions! try to have a few questions picked out about the school before your interview. The admissions people seem to be impressed if you have a few specific things to ask them about, because it shows that you value your education and what you want out of it. I found that asking about study abroad programs was a good conversation starter

I was asked: if you had unlimited resources and money to improve any area of your school what would you do?

Hi,

Thanks very much for this comment. I was actually hired from another interview I had. I’m sure this thread will be useful for others though.

quick tip: research your schools!! showing a demonstrated interest in a school will go a long way. so, if you are interested in the environment and the school has a green living house, know about it! show interviewers you’ve done your homework.

Hi,

I agreed with you. Any way, your points of view make me thinking about some thing for my project.

Pls try to keep posting. Tks and best regards

Really helpful. Thanx guys!

great thread :)

Thank you!

Ugh, my UChicago interview was straight up horrible. I told him I wanted to study IR and he was like oh what’s a major problem you’re interested in and then I said one and then he wanted to get into a big debate about it and even though his points were wrong he would say to me “Are you sure what you’re saying is what they should do? I don’t know…”

I think it really turned me off to the school.

Do not let one person overly influence your perception of a school.
We once had a terrible tour guide-so awful that my daughter decided that she had changed her mind about applying to that school. Luckily, our schedule was flexible enough that we could go back and tour the same school again with a different tour guide…it was like seeing a different place.
