Commonly Asked Questions Re: SATII

What is the difference between Math I and Math II? Is it skill difference or like different type of Maths… or what?

Actually Since I’m asking…(lol) I am interested and required to do English Physics Maths Chemistry History.

Now at my school in New Zealand( Surprise Surprise!) At the last year of High School they split Mathmatics into 2 subjects and we can only take 6. I am planning to take English,Physics,Chemistry,Maths-Calculas and History. I really want to take the other maths subject which is Maths- Statistics and Modellings. Meaning Graphs. Should I take both maths or not take Stats and stay with history for the 3 subject tests required for Harvard/MIT which I am really aiming for?

ALSO!(lol again) What is the difference between SAT I and SAT II and is there both levels of it for all subjects?

@NZNerdFactorZ: Math II includes topics that Math I does not. These topics are: series, vectors, logs, trig, inverse functions, periodic and piecewise functions, recursive formulas, parametric functions, conic sections, polar coordinates, 3-d coordinates, standard deviation, and quadratic and exponential regression. Basically, it includes precalculus and trig. Math II also has an easier curve than Math I.
The SAT I has three sections: math, critical reading, and writing. SAT II’s are shorter tests in specific subjects that test your knowledge of a specific curriculum, while the SAT I aims to test your skills in problem solving, writing, interpreting readings, etc. There is only 1 level of SAT II for every subject other than math, but most languages have listening and no listening options.
@RheaZend: You can take up to 3 SAT IIs OR the SAT I on one day. You cannot take both.
@yellowjello: I think you can use score choice for SAT IIs.
@HighExpectations: The proctor will give you the test booklet with questions for every subject and an answer sheet.
@pickey2009: I don’t know of any college that requires more than 3 subject tests (unless you are homeschooled), and if I were you I wouldn’t take the time to do more than 3.
@thenatural: Once you get to the testing center, you can take any test in any order. You only need to tell the proctor if you take more tests than you registered for.

whats the best way to prepare for SAT II Math 1 and Math 2, without a solid background in geometry.? What are some reccommended books you used to prepare for the tests? I have kaplan math1 2009-2010, if thats any good.

Thx

Very helpful information. :)

Can I ask something? Can I give 4 subject tests (Math I, Math II, Physics, Chemistry)?Or only 3 subject tests (Math I or Math II, Physics, Chemistry)??

Thank you very much!

@ Konig

I have Barron’s for Math I and Math II and I’m very satisfied. For me, they cover all chapters of Mathematics very well (Stereometry, Geometry, Algebra etc.)

My son is scheduled to take the APUSH test on May 7. The SAT II US History test is offered on May 1 and June 5.

Questions:

1) For those of you who have taken both, is there any benefit to taking one before the other, i.e. AP before SAT II or visa versa?

2) Which do you consider to be “harder” and “more important”?

3) Would it be better to have the two tests six days apart or have an extra month to study?

I would appreciate any advice you can provide.

I’m little confused here.

One of my friends said that if I sign up for 2 tests but take only 1 test and leave another blank, both tests’ scores will be canceled.

I signed up for SAT2 Bio and Math, but want to take only SAT2 bio this coming may first, and leave math for june. Can I just go, take SAT2 bio, and do nothing with Math2, but still receive SAT2 bio score?

You made me freak out quite a lot there saying Princeton requires 3 SAT IIs, in fact I believe only Harvard and Georgetown requires 3 SAT II and Princeton as usual requires 2 SAT II, unless they’re changing it this admission cycle which would be a total disaster for me >_<

If the university requires 2 SAT II scores, is it anything good to have 3rd SAT test?

"If you cancelled a test at one point, those will not be shown at all
I.e. You signed up for Physics, Chem and Bio, but decided to only write Physics; no record of Chem or Bio will be shown. "

THANK GOD FOR THAT!!! I’m not studying for chem or math 2 any more.

If I did signed up for math 2, chemistry, and biology, but DID NOT prepare for math2 and chemistry… Should I take them anyways and risk getting a horrible score If I know I am going to retake math2 and chemistry at a later date?

yo is it a good idea to take Math 1 and 2 sat subject tests in one day or just take one of them?!?

physics,chemistry and bio

i m taking math 2 as well as chem on june 5…
… i ve bought princeton review for chem till now…
pls suggest other books for chem…
and , secondly, which books should i buy for math 2??
Just have time till June 5…

Hey Dis Is REALLY URGENT! Im taking subject tests in math 2 nd chem on jun 5.
I read posts above about increasing d no. of tests u can take on d test date. Howvever i wanted 2 know hw much they charge 4 an extra test…nd is der any late fee? PLEASE REPLY!!
Also…i cheked d requirements 4 universities…nd even harvard says u need only 2. So how does it help u if u give 3? Does it give u an extra edge?
Thanks!

Did you really have to spell like this? I think there are late fees. And taking 3 might help, if you get 800’s on all of them. Good luck getting a 2400 on the SAT if you write like that though…

how important are subject tests for schools such as Boston University, Colgate, and NYU ?

Im planning to take mathII, chemistry, physics and history. I have tried princeton review but the questions seemed to be too easy. My friend told me he used collegetestprep.com but, iv also heard that barrons is pretty good. Suggestions?

If I take two tests, am I allowed to spend more time on one test than on the other one? For example, taking math II and world history, how does the proctor enforce time management? Will I be given two hours to finish two tests or one hour for each test?

but when the college/uni requires only 2 subject tests…will i be at a disadvantge not giving a third one?(If i score really well in the two im taking, even im taking math level 2 and chemistry on Jun 5)
