Hi, I’m already taking 2 summer classes, one remedial 5 unit math class (math 120, 8 weeks) and engwr 300 (3 units, 6 weeks). 8 units is supposed to be the max units to take for summer and it isnt necessarily “overwhelming” like my counselor said. (I’m doing quite well in math 120).
Fall 2017:
3 unit TAFILM 303 MoWe 1:30-2:50 PM
4 unit STAT 300 MoWe 3:15-5:20 PM
5 unit Math 335 (Trig with college algebra) MoWe 5:25-8:00 PM
3 unit ENGWR 302 TuTh 1:00-2:20 PM
3 unit ECON 302 Tu 6:00-9:05 PM
I know what you’re thinking… why late classes?! It was either 8 am or early afternoon classes
plus, all these professors I chose had really good ratings (good teacher, extra credit, and so on). But is 18 units with this schedule too much? Math 335 and tafilm wont be really hard classes compared to stats and econ for sure, hopefully. And I am only taking 18 units this fall. Next spring I’m only taking 15 units. The reason I am taking 18 units is because math 335 is not as hard as math 370 so taking one more course like tafilm should lighten up the load. Plus, tuesdays and thursdays I basically have “all” day to do homework and study. What do you guys think?
Some course titles might help.
@snowfairy137 Sorry about that.
Fall 2017:
3 unit Theater Arts Film MoWe 1:30-2:50 PM
4 unit Statistics MoWe 3:15-5:20 PM
5 unit Trig with college algebra MoWe 5:25-8:00 PM
3 unit English Writing TuTh 1:00-2:20 PM
3 unit Economics Tu 6:00-9:05 PM
There are a couple of things:
- Do you have other time commitments such as a job or can you just focus on school?
- Not knowing what ENG 300 is, is it a remedial class? If so would taking 3 possibly writing intensive classes be too much at once (Eng, film, economics)
- At my daughter's high school they recommend taking stats after Algebra 2 so just wondering if it would be easier to take stats after you complete college algebra?
4 as to time of classes that depends on the student - I would have taken 8am classes over your schedule but that is me
Do you love math? You do very well in it? If not, then I wouldn’t have you take two math classes plus econ. But if you adore math and are up for the two math classes, then okay.
I do think that’s a lot, but I’ve taken 18 credits in one term and been fine. What I’d suggest you do is pay careful attention to the add/drop deadline, which is normally after the first week or day of class. Go to the first session of each class, and see what you think. If you feel it’ll be too much, drop either econ or one of the maths.
That said, what major are you looking at? If you’re going for engineering, then stats isn’t normally required. If it’s not required, drop it.
@RoaringMice Well I dont really LIKE math but I’m doing well in algebra 2. Calculus is a bit weaker but if persistent studying is in place, it can be done right? The stats professor apparantely gives extra credit is a good teacher so I suppose it wont be harder than another stats class. As long as I keep my studies up, everything would be okay right?
As for major, business economics/managerial economics. On assist.org, Stats doesnt say it is REQUIRED for transfer for UC davis or UC irvine, but instead an additional course. Don’t i still need it though? Or should I drop it?
Okay, I’ve looked back on my schedule, and spring of 2019 (last semester before transfer) I am taking 3 courses
5 unit Calculus II
4 unit Managerial accounting
3 unit either Nutrition/Journalism
I can place one of my courses from fall 2017 to that spring if I want to, but kind of scared of calculus.
