Will 18 units be a little overwhelming for Fall?

I'm registered for 5 classes this Fall.

1.Sociology 201 (3)
2.Biological Anthropology w/ Lab (online) (4)
3.English 103 (3)
4.Math 150 (Intermediate Algebra) (5)
5.Art 103 Renaissance to Rocco (3)

Has anybody else taken a lot of units?
How was it?
Did you pull at least above a 3.5?

I'm a little scared that it might be a little hard to get A's. I also don't work.

I took 18 units and got straight A’s last spring and plan on doing it again next fall although this time I’m taking 6 classes instead of five. At times it was really overwhelming when I had stuff due the same week or tests the same week; but once that was over with I felt really accomplished and it feels great cuz I really push myself for straight A’s. If you know u have high expectations for yourself and can push yourself to each time to try and get the highest grade in class, u should do fine.

I took:
History 23 (hispanic history): A (3)
Spanish 2: A (5)
Psychology 1A: A (3)
English 1A: A (4)
Guidance 45: A (3)

Also just this past summer semester I took 9 units which was one of the most craziest and exhausting things I have ever done in my college career. I took Statistics and Biology with the required lab. I was in school from 10 am to 8:30 pm. Like I said it was very exhausting but it was well worth it in the end because math and science are the two worst subjects for me and I refused to take them during the regular semester and have it for 4 months. But I actually did really well in Statistics and got an A (3 units); and for Biology (4 units) I got a B  which wasn’t what I wanted but then again I push myself really hard (sometimes too hard).

So in the end it all depends on you and how motivated you are. If you just do work to barely get by then I guess you will be alright; but there won’t really be a satisfying reward in the end. If u push yourself hard and do your best to be the top student in the class; then knowing that you took 18 units and getting straight A’s in them feels really amazing!! (when most ppl can’t even handle 12 units lol)

Yeah I know I can pull those A’s. I usually take 15 units but I always feel like I have too much time on my hands. Statistics and biology during the summer must’ve been intense. WOW. I took math during the summer and that started to get annoying the last week. Still got an A though. How was statistics? I’m going to take it during the spring.

Well it was my second time taking stats because I got a D in the class in fall 2011 semester (which I was not ready at all to take coming straight out of high school). The professor had a lot to do with it, the professor the first time was a ridiculous grader and was horrible. But the second time wasn’t so bad, I had an excellent professor who explained things really simple and gave out study guides similar to the test (since we had a stats test every week lol during summer lol). But overall it’s not so bad, for me it all depends on the professor (and yourself of course). Make sure to use ratemyprofessor.com when u trying to decide which professor to take lol it comes in handy ESPECIALLY for a math course. If I would have known about that website last year then I definitely would have reconsidered taking stats with that first professor lol. But I guess lesson learned lol.

A bunch of humanities/social science courses and a baby math class? You’ll be fine.

^ +1 for a baby math.

Lol, “baby math”. Anyways, that sounds pretty easy and you should do well. Highest I’ve pulled was 18 units of technical courses and pulled a 3.54 that semester. Intense but again, I am a bit of a slacker.

I’m taking 12 units of technical this time (upper-division) and 20 units of technical next quarter.

If you’re a fulltime student, that should be more than doable. Three of those classes will probably end up being nothing but rote memorization, which any ■■■■■■■■ monkey with a copious amount of flashcards can pull off.

Don’t underestimate the baby math, though. You might get a psycho prof who counts entire problems wrong for a missing sign or absolute value thingies.

Stats is easy; I still don’t know what the hell a chi-square distribution is supposed to be but it really didn’t matter… plug and chug ftw

I took 18 units this summer while working part time and I was fine.

Super stressed, but fine. I haven’t gotten my most recent grades but the first two I completed (the summer was broken up into sessions) I got a B+ and an A-…these were upper div classes at UCB too.

This fall I’ll probably be taking 24 units but they will all be online so hopefully it’ll be easy.

It is 100% depends on the person. I know someone who can handle 20+ quarter units at a UC, while others might struggle with mere 12 units.

Go for it. Give it a try. If anything, drop a class or two.

^^

There’s an add/drop period where you can get an idea if the class is going to suck. We’re on the quarter system so it’s only like a week. I think at my CC it was around 2 or possibly 3 weeks that we could get added into the class. For instance, I knew that taking X class was a waste of my time and found a class that would suit my interests better.

I think most people could handle it if they’re willing to invest the amount of time required of them to do well.
