community college to uc or stay where i am?

i attended sdsu for my freshman year but had always had my heart set on UC Berkeley.( I had been accepted as an incoming freshman but turned it down due to financial reasons but saw a ray of hope.)I researched a way to make it possible. I discussed things with a counselor at UC Berkeley and she said the best thing to do would be to attend a community college and transfer from there. I was determined and set everything up as though I were going to the community college this fall. SDSU begins in two weeks, i believe, while the cc begins on Monday but now I am having second thoughts. I changed my major from psychology to biology and quickly realized the effort it would take to even be considered as a biology transfer student to a UC. The current state of the economy has forced many schools to implement budget cuts. The acceptance rates, i imagine, would be affected.so my question, with all things considered, is should i stay at SDSU or take a chance as a transfer student?

SDSU was ok. I live at home so i didn't get the full experience. I only slightly became interested in biology after taking a biology class. I also like the idea of UCSB even though i know UCSD is ideal for Bio majors.

Guess I'm just asking for some thoughts and opinions. Thank you.

What’s your GPA at SDSU? Just a note, since you’ve completed units at a 4 year, your subject to a unit cap (I believe it’s 80 semester units for UCB). After that you’re “ineligible” to apply as a transfer.

My advice is try talking to some biology majors at SDSU and see how they like it. If you’re truly intent on going to UCB, then I’d go the CCC route.

yes the cap on the units worry me a little. and it’s 3.64 i believe. thanks.

i think you should just do whatever makes you happy in the end. Wouldnt you rather have a degree you got from a UC vs a degree you had from a CSU? If you apply as a transfer and still dont get into Berk atleat your still eligible to go to other good UC’s. and plus you’ll save alot of money going to a CC for a year  If you go to CC this year just make sure your gpa is really good.

yeah! he probably never considered that!

if you’ve got time and patience, go the UC transfer route for what most people agree will be a better education / atmosphere…

plus, if you graduate from Berkeley, you’ll get to rub it in peoples’ faces with that alum license plate frame and generally get your bourgeois-ness on.
