Community College -> UC -> PhD

Hi, I’m a prospective PhD student at a community college (Save on $$), and I’m looking to see whether or not it would be possible to get into a PhD program given that I started at a community college for Economics. I would also like to know, if my math would be sufficient enough once I transfer and complete the standard Econ curriculum at a UC school (UC Irvine).

I was placed in Trigonometry at my school, and will have two semesters worth of Calculus before I transfer if that is any indication. Would anybody be able to provide me with any information about the math requirements necessary in order to get into a top program? thanks.

For Phd level Economics you can expect to equal or exceed the math level of Engineering majors.

It is perfectly possible to get into a Phd program from a CC background. In fact if you know how to spin it you can make it your hook to be remembered by the admissions board. All you need is a good GPA at both the CC and the University. As for the courses required, it depends but they should be fairly similar across the board at top schools (as in top 100 schools in the country)
