It's Ivy. It's BIG. It's good. But, does it has community sense enough to feel like home?
I'm internationals so I want a home far far away from home.

In my dorm I feel a strong sense of community; I know everyone here. In fact, it has been a lot of fun in the study lounge this week as we all worked together towards finals. I do feel like this is my home when I am here.

However, I came back a day early from Thanksgiving Break and it was incredibly boring. I had another friend who lived far away and could not go home for fall break and said it was very boring and slow here. I guess for an international student you would have to weigh the fact whether you would be going home or not on breaks, and if not, my experience is that the breaks here are lonely.

One more however, you may not be as lonely if you find a group of other international students to associate with. And remember the only time when Cornell does not feel like home, in my opinion, is if you are here on a break.

one of my good friends was a foreign-exchange student this semester here at Cornell. She never had any of the 'lonely' problems that she feared. For thanksgiving, she went home with another friend. If you're close enough to somebody, they'll probably open up their house for you and you'll never feel alone!

I feel an incredibly strong sense of community here, more so than when I was in HS. Part of it comes from living with your friends in the dorm. When you leave campus you appreciate it more, because you are immediately friends with anybody you meet from cornell, regardless of alumni status or class year. Even last summer, I met some seniors in the college of engineering as I was waiting to leave from my beach house to go to Cornell and they were really eager to tell my anything I wanted to know about the school.

It's big: yeah but not that big--just like in a medium sized town, you will always see a few people you know as you walk around campus on any given day.

It's ivy: yeah that's nice, but it's easy to forget in a way. Nobody has a stick up his a$$ here about it--most kids are just here to learn and have a good time.

It's good: yea...it is :D

But seriously, i wouldn't worry about feeling at home--it may be a little culture shock if your native country has a really different culture from america, but everybody is really friendly and it is very easy to make friends in the dorms through the orientation week activities, as well as through facebook and the classof2010.cornell.edu site, even before you get here.
