What do you guys think are the best community service abroad programs. I have looked at rustic pathways and projects abroad. Which seem less like a rich kid summer vacation. I would be paying for part of it though through a summer job.

I went on a Rustic Pathways trip last summer to Thailand, Cambodia, and China and absolutely loved it. I'm going back this summer to Thaiand and Burma. Most of the kids are pretty chill down to earth kids who really do want to help; I got along great with all the students and faculty on my trips. You also get the opportunity to go to some great places and meet amazing people. Where are you looking to go?

It varies... A lot of the trips are repeated every week (or at least a couple times during the summer) so it's essentially like a menu. Most trips are either one or two weeks, but you can put a lot together so you're gone for as long as you want (last year i put together four trips and was gone for 7 weeks, but a lot of people on my trips were only there for a week or two). Prices also vary... the most basic service trips are usually around $2000 (not including airfare), but there's some that can get to be 3 or 4 thousand. It's definitely worth the price though.
