community service

this may be a naive question, and I am really not trying to brag or whatever, but if I get 600+ hours of community service by the time i apply ED (that's the current mathematical plan as of now), colleges won't look at that as a 'purely to get into college thing', right? I actually really like what I'm doing (I'm a camp counselor at a camp for underprivelged kids during the summer, and a tutor for the same groups of kids at the same place during the school year), but I can't help but wonder how colleges are going to view this. I don't want people to think that I did this solely to get into college, because I'm not, and I truly love what I'm doing.

Also, how would you guys reccommend talking about my comm service in the app?

It depends- if you did the hours here and there for your entire high school years, then they will consider it. On the other hand, if on your senior year you rushed to do as much community service as you could, then they will most definitely see it as you worded it, a "purely get into college thing."

hmm 10chrs

Counting the number of hours sounds pompous, as if you were biding your time just to impress the college. Instead, write about the actual activities. "600 hours" of service could mean anything. But if you can write something meaningful about your experiences working with underpriveleged children, and show that this was an ongoing activity, colleges will be impressed.
