What is everybody's favorite community service to participate in? Is there anything that you do every week that you really look forward to and enjoy?

I'm really interested in finding some sort of place where I can go every weekend and volunteer and I want to find something that I'll really enjoy and get satisfaction from.

I'm thinking maybe something either like tutoring kids or working at a retirement home.

I enjoy the coaching because I loved the unity of being on a team and just watching little kids have fun and not worry about who wins gives me hope for the world =] lol.

Could you try something like that? It's a HUGE commitment though.

that sounds like fun
how do you get involved in something like that?
about how much time and what days do you have to devote to it? i cant really do anything during the week because i have sports every day until about 6:30

Just do what you enjoy most. But, based on personal experience, I wouldn't work in a retirement home unless you are certain you would really enjoy it. For me, it was three hours of agony, and extremely depressing.

Well for the coaching, it was really a natural step. It was a league I had played in since I was 7 and when I couldn't play for a season (injury) I just went to the basketball president and asked if I could help with a team. I was an assistant coach for a year to get the hang of it, head coach the next.

President of the Key Notes Club, in which we teach/play music as community service. I also volunteered at a hospital with friends over the summer.

I volunteer at a hospital every weekend. I've met some of my best friends there, so I love it.
I tutored a little boy with ADHD last year. It was really satisfying when he understood his homework, but it got frustrating very quickly if he wouldn't cooperate. I definitely recommend tutoring if you have a lot of patience, its so rewarding.

I have fun at Relay for Life. Recently in NHS we did a toy drive for needy which was really interesting, busy, and actually even kinda fun.

I also volunteered at the hospital. i did about 8 or more hours a week. Although it was stressful and not easy, for me, I walked away with skills that would benefit me from the future. Also there are SO many new things to experience. So many different personalities you are exposed to and issues. Definitely worth it even if it may not be all that fun all the time

I volunteer at a tiny hippotherapy/equine-assisted therapy stable near my home and I absolutely love it. I get all the fun of getting to groom, tack, etc. horses without having to pay a cent, and I love the work. It's a lot of fun. I also tutor, which I like also but not as much as the stablework.

If you're interested in finding a place to volunteer at, may I suggest taking a look at VolunteerMatch.org? You can put your location and preferences into the site and it will tell you what places are looking for volunteers in your area.

I volunteer two hours a week as a teaching assistant at our local Hebrew school. I work with a large second grade class, which is basically learning the alphabet and some everyday vocabulary. They're a handful, but they're also really fun! I sort of forgot how little kids are still so nice to each other (and still like Pokemon too).

I volunteer with St John Ambulance; right now I'm just with the Youth division so we mainly learn about various things relating to first-aid and practice scenarios. This weekend I'm getting my MFR (medical first responder) certification though, so I'll be able to start doing first-aid out in the community; very excited for that! (also means free admissions to concerts and such!)

I spent all summer volunteering with kiddies at Head Start (150 hours) instead of doing a summer job or going to a camp. It was the most rewarding thing I've ever done, (I'm not just being sappy) and I'm 100% going back next year and planning on working 6 hours 5 days a week.
