<p>How long does it typically take to get from Thousand Oaks to UCLA? (Moving as fast as the traffic in the left lane)</p>
<p>Google says 40 minutes/80 minutes with traffic. Is this pretty accurate?</p>
<p>I don't want to be late to my first UCLA class, but I would prefer to sleep in as long as possible.</p>
<p>Honestly, that does sound pretty accurate. The 101/405 interchange is one of the worst in the world.</p>
<p>I would leave before 7AM.
Once you hit Woodland Hills on the 101 it’ll be stop and go traffic the rest of the way and you want to account for finding parking/walking time/finding the class.</p>
<p>I commute from oak park, no earlier than 10:30 a.m. though. It takes me 35 minutes on a good day, 1 hour on a bad day (one way). You may run into more trouble. Traffic is unpredictable too. For example, I’m never dealing with rush hour traffic, but there are many, many, many accidents on the 405. Often, there will be one large on holding up traffic, and then people start to get in minor accidents as a result of it. There have been a few cases of people’s cars stalling in traffic too.</p>
<p>Keep in mind, I’ve only been commuting for six months, no more than three days a week, and this is the stuff I’ve been dealing with almost constantly.</p>
<p>It’s tough. Leave as early as you can. At least 7. If you get there early, you get there early. Better than way late.</p>

<p>if you don’t have a parking pass, come extra early on thursdays and fridays since those are street sweeping days, making it extra hard to find parking since space becomes even more limited then.</p>
<p>Thank you for the replies! I think I’ll leave at 6:30AM to be on the safe side for the first week of class and go from there. If I am way early I’ll just explore the campus. </p>
<p>I’ve got a parking pass for structure 2 (closest to my classes) so parking shouldn’t be a problem.</p>

<p>Does UCLA offer a vanpool from your area that works with your schedule? They cost money, but it works out about the same as gas, and you don’t have to deal with driving and wear and tear on your vehicle. Plus, they can use carpool lanes.</p>
<p>They do, but I’m not really interested in that.
I also need to be able to get around in LA for food, possible internships, etc.</p>
<p>Hey rpicton, I’m wondering if you’re taking the econ 11 class. I am and I live in Porter Ranch. At least for the first day, I’m leaving at 6:30 and am hoping to get there by at least 7:30(I live ~23 miles away). Good luck getting there on time; leaving at 6:30 should give you a sufficient amount of time to get to the university before 8:30.</p>

<p>You’re welcome. As for Math 115, I’m not taking that yet, because I need to take Math 61 first in order to be exposed to proofs. My Linear Algebra course in community college was mostly computational so I don’t feel adequately prepared for its UD counterpart.</p>
