Companies!

I'm in Lima Company 21st Platoon....anyone else? I know of one other NAPSter in 21st, so let me know if you're around...

From what I understand, the majority of the Mids won't find out their company and platoon numbers until I-Day. The only exceptions seem to be recruited athletes and maybe NAPS

Last year the future plebes received their company assignments the week before I-Day.

This year, according to my Firstie son, USNA's going 'old school' and won't be giving out company assignments until the plebes report on I-Day. Plebes and upperclassmen were connecting on websites like Myspace and Facebook and it caused a few problems

It sounds like there are a few exceptions, but for the majority of incoming plebes, the information won't be given to them until I-Day

It doesn't make sense to only send recruited athletes and NAPSters their companies.

I can tell you one recruited athlete that has not recieved his company. It must be NAPS kids only

When did any of this have to "make sense?"

Whistle Pig has it in one and I don't think it's USNA that's releasing the info, I think some of the coaches may be doing it on their own ( don't know for sure, just what I've heard)

yeah i dont think they're mailing them out this year, but you can call your regional officer to find out (i got company, platoon, po box number, and alpha code). i'm india co. 18th platoon...not that it really matters a whole lot on here..but yeah..

e11wemzer...did you come to the Welcome Aboard Picnic for No Va plebes on June 9th

I called on tues to see if they would give out info so we could give s's address to everyone at going away party this eve. The lady told me that they were mailed to everyone on MON. We so far have not recieved, we're in TN.

Yes, I was there....was your son one of the '08 Mids?

just out of curiosity, does anyone know the company mascots?

" When did any of this have to "make sense?" "

Sense when did it not have to make sense?

e11wemzer, no my son was in Las Vegas but his roommate was there, the 4 Striper. My husband is president of the club so I'm sure I met you...good luck on Wednesday!!

There's a thread on here somewhere from last year that has company mascots, but it's not entirely correct. Here's a quick list from recollection of company patches:

1: the shipmates (mickey mouse? on their patch)
2: fighting joeys (kangaroos)
3: Third herd (a bull?)
4: the four horsemen
5: something that looks like rockman from fantastic four
6: jackalopes (they have an actual mascot costume for bball games)
7: the porsche symbol in blue....
8: flaming cueballs?
9: pirates
10: poesiden? or neptune?
11: the tigers
12: fleur-de-li
13: lucky thirteen, dress up like lepraucans
14: cobras
15: feisty goats
16: the centurions, rah!
17: fighting irish?
18: the yarddogs
19: free nineteen (long story about restriction)
20: the samauri?
21: dogpound
22: the spartans
23: hellfish
24: rockstars
25: bearsharks (another with actual costume)
26: cowboys?
27: kodiaks (after the dip can)
28: phoenix
29: flying yarddogs?
30: dragons

might not be totally correct, but it's close-ish

21st Company's mascot and patch is changing this year from Dawgpound to "Blackjacks." We all thought that Dawgpound was really retarded.

Good Job, Marmadillo! The mythical figure on the 10th Company patch is a Titan.

thanks! i was also wondering how the companies are divided into battalion, regiments, etc.

also--are there only 30 companies? My dad, a usna grad, said there was/were 36...have things changed or what?

Brigade-->Regiment-->Battalion-->Company-->Platoon-->Squad (is that right??)

Yes that is correct. There use to be 36, now there are now only 30 companies.

FYI, for plebe summer, there is no "brigade" it is regiment down...

4/C Regiment -> Port or Starboard Battalion -> Company -> Platoon -> Squad
