Did anyone watch the Fathom Live event "Company" last night at their local movie theatre? Neil Patrick Harris and Patti Lupone were outstanding, as were the other cast members.

I wish more musicals were shown in this format for us that live so far from New York. We recently saw "Memphis" in the same manner and were impressed with the quality and perspective given via the big screen.

We really enjoyed it. Patti Lupone, of course, stole the show. Some of the stars were great actors - singers not so much . I went to college (at NU) with Stephen Colbert and it was fun to see him really acting again ie not playing “Stephen Colbert.” Christina Hendricks was fabulous.

The rehearsal process was very unique, in that the celebrities’ schedules did not allow them to be onstage or rehearsal as an entire cast until opening night. Director Lonny Price asked Amy Rogers, head of the Musical Theatre Program at Pace University, to provide him with 12 outstanding actors to learn the roles, record parts, perform in rehearsals with the celebrities, do the tech/dress rehearsals and the PBS staging rehearsal, and some had to perform for the Tony’s Dress Rehearsal.

I was fortunate enough to perform Patti’s “Joanne” track and let me just say that being in the room with those incredible artists was one of the best learning experiences I’ve ever had in my life.

Here’s an article that describes the crazy rehearsal process:
