As a NMS, I would receive a full ride at UI and full tuition at Maine. I am very outdoorsy, I love to camp, hike, climb, etc. I really want to move out of state and these are my best two options. They are comparable in size, ranking, etc but UM has an Honors College while U Idaho has only a program. I am from AZ so they are both far away. I’ve been accepted to both. I am fairly certain I will become a NMF, as I improved my score significantly from PSAT to SAT. I am planning on majoring in anthropology (to move to archaeology in grad school) but Forestry also appeals to me. I am not into the whole greek life scene so I have concerns about UI. I do love the rural college town, so Moscow and Orono fit the bill. Thoughts?
What about UAlabama? FAU WIlkes Honors COllege? UCF (full ride, way better than UI)? Ole Miss? If into tech: what about WPI or Texas Tech? If Humanities, Knox or NCF?
Between UM and UI, UMaine would be my choice - better Honors program, less isolated whil still outdoorsy. But UA, FAU, UCF, WPI would all be better choices than either one, i think.
@MYOS1634 I really don’t want to be in the south–I’m a snowboarder, long distance hiker, etc. I know it doesn’t seem like a big thing but it is to me. I’m very influenced by my environment and very connected to nature. I’ve lived in AZ too long (originally from Oregon). I’m leaning towards UMaine too, I really like their forestry program and outdoor adventure program, but even more drawn to the Honors College. Alabama is a really great option for nm, but I truly think it doesn’t fit my lifestyle. I have some family in Idaho, and they offer free room/board (unlike Maine) so it stays on the list. If I was tech-focused I would be really interested in WPI. I will look into some schools in the south, but they’ll be a tough sell with no snow. Thank you so much though!
